Bank & $$$ Tips in Lebanon:
- You will find numerous banks in Lebanon specifically around major cities are plentiful.
- You can find ATM's at most branch locations, which accept your standard debit/credit cards.
- Cash withdrawals from ATM's usually give you the choice of either USD, or LL (Lebanese Lira).
- There are also many Curency Exchange booths around the cities, specifically on busy retail streets.
- If you want to exchange your USD for LL, remember that $1 = 1500 LL
- Many small shops/restaurants do not give you back "exact" change in LL since their coins are almost worthless. The amount will either rounded up or down.
- Modern stores/restaurants are upgraded to computer based cash registers in which either currency, USD or LL can be used and exact change is given usually in LL.
- Many small shops/restaurants do not accept debit or credit cards.
- Currency demominations in LL are 100,000 - 50,000 - 20,000 - 10,000 - 5,000 - 1,000 (change as stated above is hardly used but FYI they are 500 - 250 - 50)
- The size of the currency varies by denomination. Unfortunatly the 100,000 and 50,000 do not fit our standard US wallets!
