Northern Portugal Tourism: Best of Northern Portugal
About Northern Portugal
Brimming with both history and natural wonder, Northern Portugal is home to Porto, the city that gave the country its name, as well as the important ancient town of Braga. Also here is Peneda-Gerês, Portugal’s only national park, a gorgeous wilderness area of mountains, gorges, water features and wildlife. Many picturesque villages and manor houses dot the countryside. Two areas are UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Alto Douro Wine Region, and the Paleolithic rock art in the Côa Valley.

- ByPassion PassportGuide to the Best of PortoWhile Lisbon, Portugal’s capital, has been a popular vacation spot for some time, tourists have recently started venturing farther north to the country’s next hit destination: the city of Porto. Known for its world-famous Porto wine, beautiful Douro river, and welcoming community, Porto has captured the hearts of many and even earned the title for Best European Destination in 2017. I was lucky enough to visit Porto in October 2017, and headed back again in April 2018. Knowing how difficult it can be to plan a trip that encompasses everything the unvanquished city has to offer, I’ve put together a list of my favorite spots in Porto. - ByCulture TripThe Best Seafood Restaurants in PortoPorto, like the rest of Portugal, is a seafood paradise. No matter the season, there’s always a good reason to head out in search of delectable shellfish or perfectly grilled finfish (sardines, anyone?), and if you haven’t yet tried octopus, take the opportunity to do so in Porto. Here is our list of the best seafood restaurants in Porto, and a few tips on which dishes to order.
