Great place to relax.....

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 23 Oct 2019
We stayed at BBRS for the last three nights of our holiday to have a rest after 7 days touring Borneo. Our room was on a block of one storey units overlooking the pool. There were also some blocks of two storey unites as well. The room was spacious, really clean, with a great air con system. It was like walking into a fridge, which was lovely as the temperature outside was very hot and humid. Each room had a little table and two chairs on a wooden terrace outside the room. Their were two pools next to each other. One larger one, and a smaller splash pool with a slide attached to it with plenty of sunbeds.
When we first arrived there were only about 10 guests including ourselves, but the following day (a Friday), people began arriving in their dozens. It turned out that there was family fun day event being held there on the Saturday. The place had more of an atmosphere with more guests.
If like us, you enjoy a wander, from the beach turn right and walk for about 40 minutes and you will find an inlet that joins to the river. Turn right there onto a dirt track which eventually becomes a tarmac road and on the left there is a really nice place called the Beringgis riverside café. There you can enjoy an ice cold beer or coffee at very reasonable prices.
The reason for four stars only is the breakfast was not great. The only thing that appealed to us was toast, flakes or an omelette that was so small it looked like a banana sitting on the plate (best to order 2). There was no fruit or yoghurt and the coffee was very bitter where it had been sitting stewing in an urn for ages. However, the evening menu was delicious (try the prawn fritters). The bar area was nice too, although it is in the process of being extended. So I imagine that next year there will be a seating area added to the bar along with the stools at the bar and the existing three of four tables that are there at the moment. Must say a big hello to Ashan and Ida who served during our stay. They worked very hard serving at the bar and waiting in the restaurant. A real credit to the team.
Overall, we had a vey nice relaxing time. Thank you to all the team.

My friend and I reached the resort at around 6+ in the evening. There wasn’t any help with our luggage so we had to carry our luggage by ourselves throughout the entire time from check in right up to the walk in to our room. (It was quite a distance with stairs and all!)
When we reached our block, where our room was, it was a unit in the upper floor. We got a shock of our lives!! There were literally like easily 20-30 lizards just crawling everywhere!!!!!! They were in the walls, the doors, and even INSIDE the lights!!! We couldn’t make our way up the stairs coz the lizards were just sprawling everywhere!!! We told the staff who came to us, mind you - we were still standing outside the block with our heavy backpacks on our shoulders. They took 1/2hr to tell us to come to the reception to talk about getting another ground floor unit at another block. By this time we were bitten everywhere by the mosquitoes!!!
We went to the reception and they said they didn’t have any ground units available. So we requested for a full refund as there was no way we were going to stay at a lizard and mosquito infested place. We Didn’t even get to see the room much less step inside it.
They first claimed that they can’t refund my payment because their payment gateway was closed since it was after 7pm. Then they said they can’t do it the next day coz it was Sunday and they can’t do it on Monday coz it was a public holiday. So I said just do it on a Tuesday and email me the receipt.
1/2hr later, while we were desperately trying to find another accommodation at the last minute, the manager comes to us and says that they will have to charge us for 1 night as it is their policy.
We had to debate about it for 10 mins and then another 20 mins later, the manager finally came back to us and said they will give us a full refund and then got my card from me and just voided the transaction. So much for their payment gateway being closed!!!
We finally managed to get a hotel but couldn’t get a grab car easily. We asked the staff to help us book a taxi, and they said they need to settle the refund first before helping us to book the taxi!!! It just didn’t make any sense!! And all this while, we were being bitten by mosquitoes like crazy!!!
We somehow managed to get a grab driver (bless him) and we finally left that awful place.
It was the worst ever experience we’ve ever had in our life!!
We didn’t manage to take any pictures (we regretted it) coz we were just too traumatized by the entire experience.
Bottom line is - even if you ain’t afraid of lizards, that place is infested with those and it’s just honestly disgusting... imagine the hygiene with all those fat lizards crawling around and the mosquitoes everywhere.
I hope the resort management will seriously look into the maintenance of the place.

We stayed here with our family. Its really nice you have two floors but the hotel and the room is in desperate need of some maintenance. The price is just too high for the room. Also a lot of chinese people who where very loudly.

The duplex accommodation is nice enough, pleasant gardens and lovely large pool. Backs on to beach, but we were advised against swimming due to jellyfish. There is one restaurant across the road, but apart from that, there nowhere else to eat and drink within walking distance. Unfortunately the food and service in the hotel restaurant for both breaktast and dinner is poor. This hotel states that it has guest laundry, but this is not a washing machine that is available to hotel guests, instead you pay per item at great expense for the hotel to do it for you.

This is a great place of you are looking for a real getaway. The rooms are gorgeous, the pool and grounds are fairly well maintained. It is 30mins from Kota Kinabalu which makes access to other facilities, activities and restaurants a bit of a challenge, but their restaurant is decent. There is one other option nearby.
