We loved Bongani Mountain lodge I and its staff group. The rangers particularly were well trained and very knowledgeable they gave us the most wonderful African bush experience. The lodges are clean and well serviced but are looking a little jaded but thus perhaps adds to its charm . The bed was ginormous!! The only down side is to get to the lodge it is a three quarters of an hour Driscoll in open top jeeps up a steep rugged and winding mountain path which you have to go along every time you leave to go on a trip. Fir me thus became tedious and when it rained I got soaked as the capes given were far from waterproof. Thus us my only issue and the price which probably had to be paid fir being in such a wonderful location so please be aware.

Room Tip: Some of the have a fabulous view over the edge of the escarpment ask for one of those

Maybe not the Big Five but after we bin in more places, this is an beautiful place with a stunning view over the savannah. Beautiful rooms and suites. The food was good and the staff was lovely. The Rangers are really good drivers and know a lot. If you like a bumpy gamedrive this is the place to be. There is no other place were the gamedrive are this exciting.

Lovely location, food and staff excellent, last of 4 lodges and much more scenic. had an unfortunate experience on the first night at another 'Buna' 2 million insects descended - just after the rain, 10 mins and the staff had the tables etc clear and clean, Just have to accept that the insects are part of the 'food chain' The drives are not for the 'fainthearted' excellent ranger & spotter.
Had kippers at breakfast one morning did not expect that - superb!

Room Tip: Most are adjoining bungalows with a few singles

Lots of trips organised for guests; food excellent but if, for some reason, you are not going out on a game drive, there is nothing to do at the Lodge. Also, lunch expensive, particularly if you only want a snack as you know you're going to have a delicious huge meal in the evening!

Room Tip: All rooms great, but watch out for the loose rugs; I slipped on the one in my room and ended up with a huge bruise on my side!

Vehicles maintained to a very poor standard. Had a puncture and the spare was flat. 30 mins game drive time lost why we waited for our other truck to bring us their spare. On the afternoon game drive they had a puncture but no spare as they had not replaced the one they gave to us in the morning. unbelievable!! we had to go to them with our spare, another 30 mins game drive time lost. We were treated like second class citizens once African Eagle tours turned up. Got put in an inferior vehicle and you tried to put 10 of us in one vehicle and get the other 4 to share with African Eagle. We refused to do this so were given a second inferior truck so that we could have 2 groups of 7. Our tour guide spoke to you about this and he came back and promised us that we would be back in the land cruisers the following morning. YOU lied to him as this didn't happen. The roads, if you can call them roads were atrocious, not fit for taking people on game drives. My wife had a bad neck because of the jolting around. Driver told us that there were cats in the reserve, but just laughed when we asked him to find us some. The lack of animals on the reserve makes us think that there cannot be any cats, as there were not enough of them to sustain a pride of lions, a leopard or cheetah. This is the worst reserve I have been to by a long way. Dreadful experience

Dear valued guest

Thank you for participating and contributing towards our on-going efforts to continuously improve our services and facilities.
We sincerely apologise that you did not enjoy all our offerings to the extent that we have set ourselves out to achieve.

Bongani Mountain Lodge is actively working to improve service levels and your feedback has proved to be invaluable.
We continue to be committed to provide you and all our guests with the highest standard of service in the industry.

I'm sorry that you missed out on the leopard and lion sightings on your visit, I can assure you that we do have lions and some of the best leopard sightings, unfortunately the mountainous terrain doesn’t allow us to have cheetah

As for the punctures on the game drives, it's not a common occurrence to have more than one flat tyre on a drive but being in the African bush nothing can be guaranteed unfortunately.

I do sincerely apologise for your experience and hope that you will visit us again in the future and also have the same awesome experience and memories that all our guests get to leave this beautiful place with.

Kindest regards
Johan
