“The place to taste famous Italian San Daniele Ham”

La Casa del Prosciutto
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: HK$255 - HK$468
Description: Artisanal ham factory owned by the Alberti family, located in San Daniele del Friuli since 1906. It is now the only company left to produce the renowned San Daniele ham right in the old town, on top of the San Daniele hill. Based on a long experience of five generations, this production respects the ancient techniques of craftsmanship, guaranteeing the quality of a product worldwide renowned. The hams are aged in halls built in harmony with the surrounding landscape: here, today as in the past, the product reaches the right aging point thanks to the natural flow of air currents in the moraine area of San Daniele del Friuli. In the recently renovated production complex, the latest technologies are used for precise quality controls. Attached to the establishment we find the historical Osteria, where you can taste and buy San Daniele ham and many other typical Friulian products. Every Saturday and Sunday, upon reservation, it is possibile to do a guided tour through the production site.

We stopped here on the way home from fishing with my son in a nearby fishing spot. It just happened to work out that they were open (only on weekends) and they had plenty of outdoor seating available. We ordered a platter of prosciutto for four, which was plenty for 5 adults and one child. It comes with grissini and bread, but I also recommend ordering the sottoli, which in this case were sweet baby onions, mushrooms in olive oil and olives. Delicious! It's a perfect place to come with kids, too, as there is space to run around in back. Remember to get a carafe of wine, too.

I give a 'very good' rating only because we were also given some veggies that were just so so. Still, the prosciutto is excellent!

Great prosciutto, cheese, bread and wine. There is not much more to say. Don't speak the language, ask for Marco.

They only serve prosciutto, a selection of cheese and antipasti and bread. And wine, of course. The prosciutto is good, but the cheese and the bread are only average. Considering they are also stars of the meal, I believe they should make an effort and improve the quality in these ingredients. I would come back just for the prosciutto.
