One of the nicest places we stayed in France. Grand old building surrounded by beautiful and peaceful gardens. A short walk or cycle along the Midi Canal to the historic village of Bram, with a lively market and excellent restaurant and bakery. Large rooms with lovely decor. Relaxing pool in the gardens. Breakfast outside overlooking the gardens a highlight.

We stayed at Chateau de la Prade in Sept 2023. The Gite, as part of the Chateau, was our home for 3 weeks. The Gite had two bedrooms, each with a bathroom, a full equipped kitchen with two ovens, large fridge and large freezer. We love to cook, so this was a perfect Gite for us. The view on the garden with the huge trees was fantastic. The Gite was a nice base for trips to Rennes le Chateau, Montsegur, Mirepoix and ofcourse Carcassonne. The Chateau is at the canal du midi. You can walk to the locks in a couple of minutes. We also saw a lot of cyclists staying at the Chateau for a couple of days. The owners really gave us the feeling to be at home. We can advise everyone who want to visit the Cathar area to stay at Chateau de la Prade. We certainly would come back if time lets us.

Room tip: if you are looking for a period of peace and quiet with all the luxury, then this is the place to be

It is a beautiful chateau with spacious rooms, nice garden and a pool. Restaurants nearby with a car or bicycle. Very friendly hosts. Ideal stay if you are on a Canal de Midi -cycle tour. We recommend warmly.

We were only there for one night but would have loved to be able to stay for longer. We were given a very warm welcome and all the staff were lovely. The Chateau set in its own grounds sits at the end of a long drive and is well away from the road. It is charming with lots of lovely interior features furnishings and art work. There is a real attention to detail.Very authentic in so many ways. We had a lovely evening meal and breakfast and were only sorry that we were not staying for more than one night!

I love to find quirky, special places in beautiful surroundings. They don't have to be smart, or immaculate. Imagine a mid- 19th century manor house, set in fabulous grounds, with large, beautifully-furnished rooms with modern bathrooms. Complete peace and quiet, a charming, family atmosphere with excellent dining. But wait for the best bit ... at the back of the estate is a gate, that exits directly onto the tow path of the Canal du Midi ... I leave the rest to you.
