This is probably the best hotel I've ever stayed in period. From the local stores (custom shoes, leather, jewelry, etc.) to the on-site amenities including a driving range and soccer field to the staff who zip you around in cars from the village throughout the property, this place is truly special. A happy place for my entire family, the food + spa were great well. Would come back tomorrow if I could. The Ferragamo family bought an entire medieval town + the surrounding grounds, this is a remarkable hotel.

Situated at the heart of the Estate, the sumptuously elegant Dimora Il Borro towers over the small medieval village.

The historic villa, which was built in 1854 by the Hohenlohe family, passed to Duke Amedeo d’Aosta in the early 20th century, and finally to Ferruccio Ferragamo in 1993.

The Ferragamo family have managed to restore a medieval village into a stunning 5 star resort. Beautiful property, with 2 restaurants, 2 pools, a spa, horse riding, golf, tennis & a huge vineyard. We stayed in a deluxe one bedroom suite in the little village, which features a handful of local artisan stores. The room was comfortable, facing the hillside and very quiet at night. A short walk to both restaurants and pools, and the car service is also very efficient. We did the wine tour which gives a lot of history of the place with an emphasis on environmental protection which was a nice touch. The Osteria is definitely worth a visit, make a reservation as it gets filled up. The casual restaurant vincafe was also great food and has a nice view right by the infinity pool. I read a few reviews of the service at the reception being crappy but we didn’t experience that at all. Very warm welcome and generally the staff were all super friendly and attentive. Also very well priced compared to many other 5 star resorts in the area. Definitely recommend if looking at vineyards in the area (about an hour out of Florence).

My wife and I stayed at Il Borro in late March. We traveled by train from Venice via Florence to Arezzo, a small town near Il Borro, which was only a 30 minute taxi ride from the train station. All the taxi drivers knew how to get to Il Borro just by the name. The long picturesque drive from the main road to reception is merely the first taste of a uniquely relaxing stay in a place that perfectly blends elegance with nature. The property is a walker’s paradise with many trails to enjoy nature. If your room is in the village, the friendly and knowledgeable staff will drive you there after you check in.

Il Borro has the feel of a village nestled in the countryside. We stayed in Tramonto, a guest house in the village area of the property, where we woke to the chirping of birds and fresh air each morning. The village area has lodging but also several shops of craftspeople who make jewelry, shoes and other leather goods, and ceramics and pottery among other things. Some of them offer classes. We dined at the Osteria where the tasting menu with wine pairing provided a delightful and delicious meal. We also dined at the Bistro the following evening for a more relaxed but still delectable meal. Il Borro offers a breakfast buffet with a wide variety of delicacies to be enjoyed in view of stunning scenery. Some of the wine were Il Borro’s own vintages. The wine could be purchased at the bottega, along with other products made at Il Borro, including honey, etc. There is a full service spa on site, which my wife enjoyed very much. We regretted not renting bicycles to tour the expansive and beautiful property and missing the wine tasting offered in their own wine cellar, but will save those for future visits. Il Borro is truly a Tuscan gem that we would definitely recommend.

We stayed at Il Borro for a week in May and the property and surroundings are very beautiful and well kept and you feel you are close to Nature.

The food and wines at the restaurants were delicious and of highest quality and breakfast was also well done.

The staff was very friendly and attentive and took very good care of all our needs and wishes. It was a truly great experience and spending time with the horses or going for a walk you came into contact with many beautiful birds; and animals. It was a very relaxing holiday and the Spa treatments and pools were great as well.

The only negative thing which one could not foresee was the weather..it was a bit cold for May when we were there and the room was a bit cold at night. The staff was nice enough to bring us a heater and we had wood for the fire place at night but overall being up in the mountains in my opinion I would provide a better alternative to heating the rooms. Overall it was a lovely experience and you felt at home and not in a hotel environment. Thanks Il Borro for a lovely holidays and our dog loved the outdoors space as well.
