Description: Vejer's most popular restaurant has stone vaulted dining rooms and a lush palm-filled courtyard set in an emblematic 16th century building. 'The Caliph's Garden' is one of Andalucia's prime eating destinations. You will be served fabulous North African & Middle Eastern food in a historic, tranquil & unsurpassed setting in the heart of Vejer's medieval quarter. Overlooking the palm filled square of the medieval quarter the Jardín del Califa is inspired by the Moorish rule of Vejer over 700 years ago. The Jardin del Califa is set in one of Vejer's most important historic buildings. The principal building dates from 1527 (and includes parts from the 11th Century) and is now a grade 1 listed monument. The stone clad dining rooms and the palm filled courtyard are the perfect company for your meal with us. Come to the Califa and you will enjoy tasty dishes, stone vaulted cellars, an enchanted garden, a splashing fountain and scented plants. The haven of this quiet corner in the heart of Vejer will provide you with many memorable moments.

The food, space and staff were great.
We would come back in a flash.
The restaurant is family friendly.
They also make great cocktails amd have a great wine list so adults are well catered for.

We had the chefs mezza plater - big tick on this one.
My wife had the Chicken pastella with almond sauce. (Pastella????).
I had the chefs special tagine with Spinach and prawns yummmbo!
We shared a cheescake with dates and an amazing sauce.
Will try this restaurant again given the opportunity.

Thank Andrew F

Located inside of the hotel, this restaurant has 3 different parts to it: the Terrace (Teraza), Garden (Jardin), and Express. My partner and I came in for lunch and were immediately seated outside at the Jardin.

We had the Shish Taouk (chicken shishkabobs - 2 skewers), and the Pastela de pollo (Chicken Pastela - almond, chicken pot pie with a hint of sweetness). Both were really tasty and fairly filling. We also had a tinto con limon (popular drink in Spain which combines red wine, sprite and ice), and an ice tea. The total for both of us was €38, which is a bit steep for a restaurant in a Spanish town in the middle of nowhere. But overall the food was very tasty, service was quick, and location was central.

Excellent Moroccan food. Great choice for vegetarians. Suits Indian Palate. Even a dish from Gujarat in the Menu (see pic). Highly recommended

Delightful lunch in a beautiful walled-garden setting. Good wine list. Spoilt by really poor attitude from Jose. He looked like he was doing us a big favour to be there (which he wasn’t).

I can’t for the life of me understand why good restaurants employ people with a bad attitude. It’s not big and it’s not clever.

Would visit again in the hope of being served by someone who could pretend they wanted us to be there.

Thank John E

Thanks for your response. Not sure what happened with José, he's usually very good but we may have to fire him if we get another complaint. We don't make a point of employing grumpy staff and when staff get complacent they have to go although our record is pretty good and we have some fine waiters / waitresses that have been with us for many years. I trust you will have a better experience next time. Apologies once again.
