We spent only a night to the Zuider Zee Guest House, driving from St. Lucia to Durban. We found the cottage usefull for our purpose (sleep close to Durban Airport). The accomodation is quite simple but very large. The price is ok

Zuider zee is a real gem. The rooms are neat and tidy, all you need and more is available that you would expect from a self catering unit. You can walk down to the beach (about 700m) and even hear the ocean during the night. It was nice to stay in such cared for units, we will definitely return.

While this part of the KZN North Coast is hugely built up with luxury apartments & hotels crowding out access to the beach, Zuider Zee Guest House lies a bit higher, amongst lush vegetation with prolific bird life and with the sound of the sea in the background. A clean, neat, no nonsense place to stay with everything you need while away from home. Beautiful completed jig-saw puzzles are part of the décor! Thank you!

Zuider Zee is definitely good value for money and the accommodation, albeit self catering, also included breakfast (we were in the Dolphin Suite). The Dolphin Suite itself, for me, looked a bit tired. The bedroom was excellent but the lounge would have been better with a small couch rather than wicker armchairs. The view was stunning and seeing monkeys roaming around was entertaining.

I choose Zuiderzee because of the proximity to the airport. It’s only a 20 min. drive. Perfect when you arrive from a long and tiring flight and you can leave the dangers, stress and noise from a city far behind you. Zuiderzee is a tranquil base, located in a quiet cul-de-sac, but still close enough to Durban, although Ballito already has everything you need.
The lush garden with birds and monkeys gives the place a peaceful and exotic vibe that I really didn’t expect so close to Durban.
The rooms are not luxurious but they are spotless clean, spacious and have everything you need including a flatscreen TV. The biggest asset of Zuiderzee is the self-catering part. Each room has its own kitchenette with stove, microwave, fridge, …which gives you a lot of liberty on your vacation.
Besides the kitchenette each room has an individual BBQ area outside.
All this for a very very reasonable price. We paid 700 R for the self-catering room for 2 pers excluding breakfast.
Breakfast (optional) was excellent. The sunny breakfast area has tables inside and outside on a deck overlooking the sea (from afar). A perfect start of the day. The tables are individual so guests that need a bit of time to wake up in the morning are not “obliged” to eat at the same table with the other guests. But there is still the possibility to interact with the others if you want to.
Last but not least Simon and Tsitske are great hosts and made us feel really welcome. Thank you for a delightful stay!

Room Tip: The wooden cabins are the nicest of all the rooms.
