Stayed in May with my husband for a week. Initially we were a bit disappointed, weather was bad on arrival, the edge of the beach was covered in black seaweed and we had hysterical noisy neighbours (and barely any sleep at all) on the first night. But on waking on our 2nd day (we heard the noisy neighbours depart with their suitcases at 5 am, thank goodness) we were quite happy. The hotel was spotlessly clean and our bed was changed every day as were the towels. As we were staying off season according to the staff (Italian summer hols don't begin until 1st June), the hotel was wonderfully quiet. Perhaps not everyone's cup of tea if you like lots of activities etc but was perfect for us. No queues for food, bar, reception etc. Things did get busier but it didn't really affect us as we left soon after.
The adult pool was lovely, only a few beds around the pool (half of which are in the shade half of the day) but we usually had the whole area to ourselves which was a bonus!
Food was fine, I'm a vegan who doesn't eat gluten and I managed to eat well (if slightly repetitively) over the week and certainly never went hungry. My husband who eats everything ate very well and found plenty of variation. Water and house wine are provided with meals which is good. Wifi is only...Stayed in May with my husband for a week. Food was fine, I'm a vegan who doesn't eat gluten and I managed to eat well (if slightly repetitively) over the week and certainly never went hungry. My husband who eats everything ate very well and found plenty of variation. Water and house wine are provided with meals which is good. Wifi is only available in the bar area and only after getting a code from reception that lasts 2 hours. Again, nothing to moan about there, we didn't go on holiday to be glued to our phones, it was actually quite liberating!
Regarding the beach and the seaweed, obviously an act of nature and no reflection on the hotel, but it was annoying as you couldn't enter the sea directly beyond the loungers as the mountain of dried seaweed was so high. We did find some lovely beaches a short stroll in both directions so it was fine, we just didn't use the hotel loungers at all. The clear up did begin once the tourist season had begun after June 1st, so by now all will be fine I'm sure!
We walked to the Oasis di Bidderosa, it took about an hour to get there and you do have to cross the entrance to a lake (if you take the scenic short cut route straight along the beach) but you can walk through the water as it's not deep and hold your bags above your head! It's worth it, the beach and surrounding area is so beautiful. If you have a car it won't take any time at all to get there but the walk was lovely and so many of the beaches we walked along were completely deserted, so worth it just for that!
The hotel is isolated but if all you want is some sun and some lounging (which we did) then it's not a problem. And you can easily walk along the beach if you want to get away from everything and explore a little. If you want to get out and about then a car is essential. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Some don't have such great English but they all make an effort. In the evenings the animation staff like to talk to everyone around the bar, I think they enjoy speaking to the English people as they like to practice : ) 2 staff members even joined us for a game or 2 of Uno, very sweet!
All in all a relaxing stay.More
