Dear Guest,

Thank you for staying at Filitheyo Island Resort and for sharing your experience on TripAdvisor.

I am very sorry that you were not impressed by our excellent reef, delicious food buffet and friendly staffl. We have many repeaters coming back again and again and enjoyed our resort. We are not a luxury resort but we do offer true traditonal Maldivian hospitality ( excellent housereef, wide food variety and friendly service team). We request you to note that we are located in middle of ocean and so far we have replaced 60 rooms with new roofs.

As for the pool deck is concerned, we have recently done it new. You may have missed experiencing true beauty of our reef area which houses rays, reef sharks, turtles and lots of fishes.

Your feedback nonetheless, is very valuable.

I surely hope you will return once more to experience our resort.

Thank you,

Kind regards,
Hemant Kumar

First of all this island has a great house reef for snorkelling which was the number 1 on our list for our holiday & we were not disappointed.
This was our 5th time to the Maldives but the first time on this island.
The staff were very welcoming & highly efficient, too many to name but I would like to say thank you especially to our room boy & waiter David, the manager Hermant was always available & hands on.
We stayed in number 47 which we was ideal for us, a few steps into the sea, shade if needed under the palms too.
The only down side was the price of the internet which was far more than we had ever been charged in the Maldives $25 per day.(I'm sure they would make more by charging less as more people would have it!)
As many people have commented the island needs upgrading mostly new roofs & painting but they seem to be doing some whilst we were there.
Meals were always good, plenty for different tastes.
All in all we had a great holiday mostly down to the reef & the friendly staff.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Filitheyo Island Resort & made most welcome by the front office manager HEMANT , who went out of his way to make our time on the island enjoyable .
I must also mention our restaurant waiter DAVID , who worked tremendously hard . The same also goes out to HUSSAIN , RUBEL , ROHIM , SANEERA & FARUK , who treated us like royalty @ with the utmost respect . These people mentioned on my review are a credit to the island of Filitheyo .
We would love to return one day & resume our friendship .
The restaurant food was variable & enough to suit every taste .
Both the bars were most inviting & a pleasure to spend an evening .
The reef was teeming with fish , turtles & manta rays ..... great for snorkling .
We had a superior bungalow ( 47 ) that had a lovely beach area & easy access into the ocean .
My only moan , would be the WIFI CHARGES ( which are very high & need addressing asap )

We arrived on Filitheyo Island Resort and were instantly greeted by cool towelettes, refreshing drink and Balinese shoulder massage from actual Bali women. From the staff to the food to the room to the amenities and excursions at the resort we couldn't ask for more. Everything was exceptional and the staff was highly attentive and eager to make our stay the ever more pleasurable. The food has been delicious and the menu changes daily with ample options to chose from. Our water Villa was well equipped with AC, fridge and even a cute sand Zen garden. Private access into the ocean for snorkeling and swimming directly from our deck was so amazing. We are already planning our next visit. We feel extremely fortunate that Filitheyo was our first experience in the Maldives and from what we've heard it is one of the best and most authentic of experiences.

Room Tip: #23 water villa is a corner unit facing the sunrise

We were last in Fili in 2006 and returned this Easter. We’ve been to many other Maldivian Islands since and I was curious to see if it had changed – I was delighted that it really hadn’t. Islands often feel the need to add more water bungalows or to put more decking over the beach, but Fili is really natural and almost jungle-like in its centre - not too manicured.
Our bungalow was in a quiet part of the island about 10 minutes from the bar/restaurant which we loved, as there were not many passers by and the highlight for us was one night discovering some turtle hatchlings on the paths; they had become disorientated by the island's lights. We quickly returned them to the sea and I hope they made it.
Others have commented that the rooms needs a bit of TLC and I agree, but just maintenance - not a makeover. Our bathroom door didn’t close properly and the shower head could be renewed. The pillows aren’t great. On a double bed you only get one pillow each (I prefer 2) so one of you has to choose the lumpy one and your partner gets the firm one!
We were on half board and I’m not sure All inclusive is worthwhile. Other islands give you a mini bar with beer, spirits and small wines in it but Fili doesn’t, so if you want to have a drink on your veranda you’d have to carry it a fairly lengthy walk from the bar. We found that they did 3 for 2 on bottled Tiger or San Miguel so we tended to do that after dinner to watch the (phenomenal) stars from our bit of beach.
There are a few cats roaming around, which was fine by me – they’re quite entertaining. There are many hermit crabs and a good number of herons and some cute fruitbats.
There’s no free wifi which is becoming increasingly common in Maldives and it is quite pricey to buy. There is an ancient PC in the library with very slow internet if you need it.
When you are a repeat customer on an island they will often give you a bottle of wine and a fruitbasket, sometimes a Tshirt, but Fili really goes the extra mile – we had not only wine & fruit but an excellent quality 3 course dinner on the beach. Just remember to tell them on arrival because they hadn’t noticed due to the 10 year gap, in our case.
Another thing I really appreciated was that they serve water in glass bottles. So much plastic is saved. I think the islands should not be afraid to ask guests if they could take back home the plastic they brought, such as shampoo and shower gel, along with any batteries. Maldives has a problem with disposing of all this extra waste.
There’s a kettle and free tea, coffee, sugar and little cream portions in the room which they’ll replenish as often as you need.
The restaurant staff are lovely, I think Fili has some of the friendliest staff I’ve met. There is a good variety of food, although we noticed a slight drop in quality between the first week - Easter - and the second, when a lot of people checked out. There are always 2 curries - 1 is veggie, but none are spicy enough for British taste, due to the majority of guests being Swiss or German. Thankfully there was always bowl of Indonesian Sambal Sauce nearby to ramp up the heat.
I don’t think they need to play music in the restaurant- everyone is happily chatting away and really don’t need it to be accompanied by the same 10 songs every night.
They have a pasta bar, a sushi stand - which had sashimi every day (until the 2nd week). They had interesting dishes such as Tuna Wellington and several decent roast meats.
Finally the sunset bar – lovely staff who make a point of remembering what you drink and spot when you’re ready for a top up. They do very nice food too.

Diving:

Werner Lau - so you know the standard will be high. Our dive guide Lele was safety conscious, very professional but relaxed and easy to chat to. All the guides did very thorough current checks before the dive and the briefings were detailed but not excessively long. And thankfully done on the lower deck, not while being forced to fry on the roof of the boat, which as a very pale person, I hate. The boats were a bit cramped in the first week. Note that they don’t have toilets on the boats or a freshwater shower. No boats do a 2 tank morning and there are no full day trips. What they do give you on each dive is water, a towel and afterwards you get tea – I really liked that. The boat crew were extremely helpful. Also we were the only boat at every dive site we went to which was great. They have 2 boats going every morning and afternoon to an easy site (red) and a challenging site (blue). Generous 220 bar fills, and 12 litre tanks. The last 2 resorts I went to only had 10 l tanks! Book in advance on the Werner Lau website, it’s much cheaper. You get a discount if you’ve dived with any Werner Lau branch before, whether it’s Canaries, Red Sea, Bali etc.
The house reef is good, very little bleaching although we didn’t see as many turtles and sharks as on other house reefs. The best was exit 3 to 4 around the water villas.
