as expected, nature is unpredictable. we were booked on 1845, but penguin decided to appear only around 2030, so we sat there bearing the wind for around 2 hours. Problem is the mainland china tourist, they stood as they wished, and stormed the beach line as soon as the penguin appeared causing chaos. I think something need to be done about it to ensure everyone can have an enjoyable view. All in all interesting but lots can be improved especially crowd management.

You can buy tickets online or at some of the other attractions around Phillip Island. This will save time lining up as it is a popular attraction.Make sure you take a warm jacket as it gets cold when the sun goes down. Get there early to ensure you get a prime position. There are 2 large viewing areas with steps and a roped off area of beach sand in front of the steps. The majority of penguins walk between these viewing areas so get a position on the inside area of the steps or take a blanket to sit on the sand by the ropes for best viewing. After the sun goes down the penguins come out of the water. After you are happy seeing some come out of the water and walk past you go up to the boardwalk where you can view some of them closely. They are cute but they are wild so don’t try to touch them. As the sun sets you can’t take photo as the Park Rangers don’t want flashes going off as this scares the wildlife. The souvenir shop has plenty of gifts at reasonable prices. Toilets are located inside and outside and there is a cafe. Fantastic for all ages.

The penguin parade was a fantastic way to end our day on Phillips Island. There is a big crowd that comes out to watch and you must get there early so bring warm clothing so you can focus your attention on the penguins. I enjoyed watching them come up out of the water but you also get to follow their journey on the boardwalk. It is magnificent to see how these little creatures internal navigation takes them back to their home. Downloaded the APP as well so you can look and see how long some of the penguins had been out In the water for.

If you are in Phillip island and haven't been to penguin parade, it's a trip wasted. We'll, that statement is surely over hyped.
We made our way to the general viewing and waited for an hour in bitter cold and dim lights to watch a dozen penguins exit from the sea and waddle across the beach towards the land. It felt like we were in a shanghai port with local tourists wailing, dancing and clicking on their cameras to entertain the petit penguins.
Better spend your time and money somewhere else.

Very disappointed by the number of people allowed to be there. 2 grandstands with several hundred people each, and only 3 or 4 attendants to keep everyone under control. Two simple rules - sit down and no photos - of course these are too difficult to follow for the vast majority of Chinese tourists (and yes the instructions are repeated in Chinese languages several times). The penguins can hardly be blamed for their reluctance to linger on the beach or go anywhere near the areas roped off for people. Once the penguins are off the beach everyone stampedes up the boardwalks and continue to terrorise the birds heading to their nests.

Overall the whole experience was disappointing and disturbing. It's great they are making lots of money for penguin conservation (the visitor centre is made up of 2 souvenir shops, a large bistro/coffee shop, a popcorn stand and a stand for photos), but there is nothing educational or 'wild' about the evening. Could not get out of there fast enoug.

Dear Kerrie0m
Thank you for your review and feedback of your recent visit to the Penguin Parade, and I'm sorry it was not a positive experience for you.
Even though you did not enjoy the visit yourself, we thank you for recognising that all of our revenue funds conservation, research, education and environmental activities. We do occasionally experience large numbers of visitors, and managing everyone's expectations and behaviours does pose an ongoing challenge, and something we are constantly striving to be better at.
Thank you again for taking the time to write a review.
Kind regards
