Having stayed here several times before I knew what to expect - I thought. Since Covid, the hotel has understandably taken any business it can get. Sadly, this has caused it to loose its calm, tranquil atmosphere.
Guests now take their own music systems to areas that were quiet pre-dinner retreats, also phone music and loud video calls are fairly regular in the 'quiet pool' area. These are done with no intervention from the management.
In the picture at the top of this page, the bass speakers are about a couple of metres to the left of the parasol seen through the window.
In addition, the adjacent hotel (Medina Palms) has opened and has loud disco music on the beachfront area until midnight - again, the management are disinterested.
Unless you really like hip-hop music, I would avoid this place now.

So I love this place, we have visited a couple of times.

Good bits: No hassle of the beach, great watersport setup, good Askari looking over us at night and a good selection of food and drink. Phillis also set up a beautiful honeymoon meal for us on the beach in a gazebo covered in the cost and it was magical. Some of the staff could not do enough to support us and were super friendly and helpful. The beach is amazing and you walk out of the room onto the soft white sand . We would leave the curtains open and wake up with the sun rising over the water - it was beautiful.

Bad bits:
Blood splatter on our walls and ceiling where others have killed mosquitos. Our fan was rusty and has spun and spat rust water all over the walls and not cleaned up. Looked like blood when we walked in.

Air Con was older than me, had no direction or fan as someone had ripped it off and leaked water consistently all night (just dripping constantly so we had to put towels down).

We assume the sanitation was near our room as it would really smell in low wind.

No COVID enforcement at all, people were flying in and entire schools going through the buffet without masks on, although signs everywhere to wear masks. The staff also let people play music through phone speakers all day by the pool, it’s a very Kenyan and frustrating thing to do and there are signs forbidding this but no enforcement and feels like an 18-30 holiday sometimes.

Huge influxes from schools throughout the day took all loungers, all the staff time and bombarded the pool - made it unbearable to stay by the pool due to the noise. Even the adult pool had kids about; our heart sunk when we arrived and there were school busses arriving.

This sounds like a rant, but we paid £1000 for some luxury for 4 days in the beach suite and ended up surrounded by school kids, partys playing their own music and staff just serving the teachers. The staff are not bothered about enforcement and the Askari was actually partying with some of the girls playing some very offensive and loud music.

We will not be back which is a shame as the location and setup is perfect, but the lack of staff enforcement to make it pleasurable for everyone has ruined a luxurious long weekend.

Don’t come here for peace and quiet.
