Here we are again after much stress in complying with the Kenya entry requirements because of Covid. However having done it all it will be much easier next time and well worth the effort. Getting into Kenya was easier than getting out of the UK. It is very difficult for everyone operating under the current circumstances but rest assured the staff at Turtke Bay Beach Club will do all that is necessary to make sure you have a great time here. So if you are unsure about coming be assured and come, you will not be disappointed.

I have been in Watamu for holiday and thus while on a private visit to MSA, i just wanted to check out how the hotel is from the inside hence my decision to have lunch here, everything was moving on well until i was asked to sign a waiver for the staff at the hotel to assist me with a wheelchair to the beachfront restaurant where i could have lunch.
It took almost thirty minutes even for them to locate a form i could sign, the wheelchair brought for me was equally too old and rusty that i chose to use my personal wheelchair which i had carried in my car.Everything proceeded well after the signing of the waiver form which essentially was to absolve the hotel from any liability should i get any accident while being assisted around the hotel! Everything went on well, had great food and was laughing while heading out with those who were assisting me but i didnt fail telling them i felt discriminated even though i was a paying customer.
I am sure the hotel can do better, if it signing forms then all visitors need to sign them not only those with disabilities for sure this is 21C

Room tip: Ask for accessible route around the hotel

Dear Reviewer

We appreciate your feedback and we will ensure that the forms are more readily available henceforth. Unfortunately we had a case where we offered assistance with a guest in a wheelchair and whilst moving the guest to their room the chair fell over and we were sued which is why we now have to have a waivre signed. We are glad to hear your stay was however a pleasant one and we look forward to welcoming you back.

We held a retreat for 35 people at Turtle Bay in Oct 2021 and were blown away by the service of the staff, the cleanliness of the rooms, the variety of the food and the beauty of the beach.

The kids club they offer is fantastic. The care providers are so professional, engaging and fun for the kids. They made sand castles, explored the tide pools, played hide-n-go-seek and swam for hours. The older youth had options of playing volley ball, trying paddle boats and paddle boards and felt cared for but not babied. It was such a relief to not have to worry about your kids while we held our meetings.

For several of the meals we asked staff to set-up special spaces for us to meet as a smaller group. The waiters, chef and clean up crew did everything for us with no complaint. My husband and I come from a hospitality background so we know how much work this represents. Never once did we feel we were inconveniencing the staff.

We will absolutely come again!

Having stayed here several times before I knew what to expect - I thought. Since Covid, the hotel has understandably taken any business it can get. Sadly, this has caused it to loose its calm, tranquil atmosphere.
Guests now take their own music systems to areas that were quiet pre-dinner retreats, also phone music and loud video calls are fairly regular in the 'quiet pool' area. These are done with no intervention from the management.
In the picture at the top of this page, the bass speakers are about a couple of metres to the left of the parasol seen through the window.
In addition, the adjacent hotel (Medina Palms) has opened and has loud disco music on the beachfront area until midnight - again, the management are disinterested.
Unless you really like hip-hop music, I would avoid this place now.

Room tip: There are now NO quiet rooms - avoid if you like to sleep at night.

Dear Reviewer .
We are sorry that there were so many noise issues during your stay . The noise from Medina was a party they had in over the weekend and is by no means a regular occurrence. We have faced a challenge during the covid time whereby some of the clientele who have been patronsing the hotel do like to bring their own music. We have placed signs up to say this is not allowed but they do need constantly reminding. We are sorry therefore that this was not followed up as strongly as it should have been during your stay. The management were not disinterested and followed the matter up with Medina who ensured us it was a one evening/night event.
The Covid era has not been easy for anyone and we have been doing what we can to get through it. We aim to do the best for all our clients and keep them all happy. We will try and learn from your feedback and try improve how we handle certain situations.

Thank you

So I love this place, we have visited a couple of times.

Good bits: No hassle of the beach, great watersport setup, good Askari looking over us at night and a good selection of food and drink. Phillis also set up a beautiful honeymoon meal for us on the beach in a gazebo covered in the cost and it was magical. Some of the staff could not do enough to support us and were super friendly and helpful. The beach is amazing and you walk out of the room onto the soft white sand . We would leave the curtains open and wake up with the sun rising over the water - it was beautiful.

Bad bits:
Blood splatter on our walls and ceiling where others have killed mosquitos. Our fan was rusty and has spun and spat rust water all over the walls and not cleaned up. Looked like blood when we walked in.

Air Con was older than me, had no direction or fan as someone had ripped it off and leaked water consistently all night (just dripping constantly so we had to put towels down).

We assume the sanitation was near our room as it would really smell in low wind.

No COVID enforcement at all, people were flying in and entire schools going through the buffet without masks on, although signs everywhere to wear masks. The staff also let people play music through phone speakers all day by the pool, it’s a very Kenyan and frustrating thing to do and there are signs forbidding this but no enforcement and feels like an 18-30 holiday sometimes.

Huge influxes from schools throughout the day took all loungers, all the staff time and bombarded the pool - made it unbearable to stay by the pool due to the noise. Even the adult pool had kids about; our heart sunk when we arrived and there were school busses arriving.

This sounds like a rant, but we paid £1000 for some luxury for 4 days in the beach suite and ended up surrounded by school kids, partys playing their own music and staff just serving the teachers. The staff are not bothered about enforcement and the Askari was actually partying with some of the girls playing some very offensive and loud music.

We will not be back which is a shame as the location and setup is perfect, but the lack of staff enforcement to make it pleasurable for everyone has ruined a luxurious long weekend.

Don’t come here for peace and quiet.
