We stayed a night here while biking the Canal Du Midi. We had a room over looking the canal that had been renovated. The room was spacious with a nice bathroom. The bed was like sleeping on a brick! However, there was some effort to modernize, as there were usb charging outlets, electric blinds and AC which struggled to cool the room down but at least it was there. The breakfast was very basic, mainly continental. For those with cars, there was heaps of free parking.
The hotel is dingy and run down. In the middle of the night the bed collapsed as the wooden slats of the base were not secured. We had to put the mattress on the floor. We were accused of breaking the bed. No apology from the person running the hotel. He was exceedingly rude and unhelpful. There were however 2 women employees who were helpful. The facilities were basic. Very poor value for money
We booked this hotel not knowing how basic it was. The room was spacious enough and clean, but lacked any frills. The staff were pleasant, the breakfast was good and the hotel is on the Midi Canal, just a short walk from the sleepy town of Castelnaudary, which has a number of variously-priced restaurants.
We where to stop at the Hotel du canal for 2nights before going to le boat to collect our boat for a week . On arrival I could not believe my eyes it looked so run down after staying at a lot of Chateaux through France that where beautiful .
We went to reception thinking it could get better , the man on the desk first said we where not booked in he was very rude . Eventually He found our booking so I asked for the key to be able to see the room first . Went up the very dirty steps unlock a heavy metal door like a prison door. The room was so basic I have seen better in a youth hostel. Needless to say we did not stay but he took the money from our account through booking.com.
Do not stay at this hotel.
Ideally located walking distance from the gare as well as a number of excellent restaurants and right by the canal du midi this hotel has a certain charm.
To be fair, the interior is a little tired and the rooms basic but they do everything you need and the place is very clean throughout. Nice breakfast room and a lovely bar area next to the canal, a lovely spot for an evening drink or two.
The reception staff all handle English if necessary and were very polite, welcoming and keen to assist.
