Charming from the outside, and offering off-street parking, this place LOOKS inviting. But our room was so shoddy and charmless, with no places to put your toilet kit in the bathroom (one plus is that there was an actual tub in there), no hooks to hang a towel or a jacket. I could hardly wait to get out of there.
There was nothing historic or antique or cute in the room, so don't think that I simply cannot appreciate antiques or shabby chic. This place looked like a movie set for a fleabag American hotel located on Skid Row. Laminated fake wood, a chair that was one tap away from falling to pieces, worn out towels, sad 1960's ceramic tiles.
It's in a fairly good location in town (near the SPAR supermarket, up at the top of the beautiful boulevard that google maps calls the D624 (I'm sure there's a nice French name for the street). Within walking distance is the Canal du Midi (can't see it or the lake or cathedral from hotel) and, uphill, the summit of the town where you will find a very old windmill and amazing views of the countryside to the north.
The restaurant was touted as having the best cassoulet in France, and, while I admit it was a good-sized serving, it is just a very buttery pork and beans. Breakfast was fairly usual for France... fresh bread, jam, coffee, cheese.
Front desk people remarkably patient with my crappy French skills.
Just a tired old hotel.
