As you just enter the hotel you feel like you enter a fairytale
It’s an old castle but the rooms are in a superior level !! The bed and amenities were amazing. On top of that the pool, spa and breakfast were at the highest level. But what made the difference were the stuff of the hotel. Would go back again for sure.

I went for a week to relax with my partner. A friend recommended it and it has been better than I expected. The room was very confortable, the bed was big and confortable. Breakfast was varied and delicius. Every cor of Castel Monastero is a paradise to discover. Excellent quality/price. Highly recommended.

We did not know what to expect, but Castel Monastero surpassed. Most impressed with the service. The staff of the hotel, as well as the serves and hosts in the two amazing restaurants, could not have been more accommodating. This monastery turned spa/resort can serve as a perfect respite for relaxation, or a jumping off point for all that Tuscany has to offer. We took day trips to wineries and also one to Montepulciano. Sienna and San Gimigano are all within striking distance. There was even an open air opera performance on Friday night in the amazing courtyard. We enjoyed several September evenings, under the stars in the courtyard sipping our wine. Very professional management and staff. Highly recommended.

We arrived to a warm welcome in this beautiful location. The staff on reception were very friendly and efficient as was the door man. We were shown to our rooms which were fairly pleasant. We went down to the pool area for lunch. This was the start of the disappointment. The pool area is stark and scruffy, broken tables and really old sun beds. The gym over looks the pool and people were thumping about on the running machine whilst we were trying to relax, which was irritating. The menu at the bar was basic and very expensive. Sadly the pool staff were reluctant to offer you any regular service. You had to constantly try and attract their attention (so good at avoiding you) The Michelin starred Gordon Ramsey restaurant was extortionate. Seriously jaded overdone presentation of tiny portions of food. Some of which were just not great. The breakfast in the courtyard was a great setting but the service strange. No one told us there was hot food in another room out of site, we worked it out on day two. There is a strange awkward atmosphere with the staff. I am not sure if they are paid poorly or generally overworked but they just did not seem genuinely interested or happy. This feeling seems to prevail over Castel Monastero. I really wanted to love it but sadly I did not and I will not come back.

My husband and I stayed one night of our honeymoon which coincided with my 30th birthday in a beautiful and spacious room. Waiting for us was a bottle of champagne that my parents had arranged for us (I later found out this had taken 2 days to arrange over the phone after waiting for callbacks that never happened and having to speak to 3 different people – the language was not the barrier, it was their pure incompetence).
Sunshine and in the high 20s, so we decided to spend the day by the pool. We went to order some pool snacks but there was no one at the bar. Decided to ask at reception but were told the pool bar was closed and if we wanted food it had to be at the restaurant. We then found a staff member walking past the pool who managed to go out of his way to arrange for a sandwich to be brought to us. Later on, when wanting to order some drinks, the bar staff was nowhere to be seen so we had to go back to reception. Again we were told the pool bar was closed and would be open again the next day. Not giving up, we tried ordering them from the restaurant but because we wanted to have them by the pool they had to be in plastic glasses which they didn’t have so they couldn’t serve us a drink. After some convincing we got our own way. The “we are shut” vibe wouldn’t have been such a problem if they weren’t charging usual prices, but that wasn’t the case and to top it off, later that night, we were told by the same reception staff that the pool bar had actually been open but the staff member wasn’t there for some reason and they should have been able to get someone there for us.

We had dinner that night in La Cantina. Pleasant environment and good value for money. The problem came after dinner when we went for a night cap at the bar and guess what? No bar staff in sight. Complained once again to reception who by this point could sense our frustration and apologetically offered us a free drink the following night. For the third time we mentioned we were only there the one night (thankfully!). They then decided to compensate us for the trouble we’d had throughout the day with a free bottle of white wine in our room, at 11.30pm!. They probably thought a drunken night’s sleep would make us forget the appalling service we’d experienced, but unfortunately we didn’t and will certainly not be returning. Who knew it would be such a battle to order some food and drink in a 5 star hotel! For the record, we didn’t drink the complimentary 10 Euro bottle of wine.
