Booked through booking.com last weekend, drove 2 hours to the hotel, met the receptionist stood around with her colleagues. She asked how can I help, I said that I have a room book and her reply was "NO, you haven't"

In the heart of Symonds Yat sits this amazing hotel, restaurant and bar with superb views to die for. It is well worth a visit for either the hotel maybe just a drink in the bar or a meal in the restaurant. Bar meals are available all Day with a good menu in the restaurant for the evening. Perfect for walkers or just a romantic weekend away. We will be back very very soon

My partner and I stayed here over the weekend. On first look the hotel looks very nice, it is in a great location on the river. We was a bit early for check in so I went into the hotel to get a parking ticket, this took a while as they couldn’t find our booking, we was then advised to come back at 3pm. We did have a dog with us so we wasn’t expecting the best room in the hotel but once we did check in we was put into room 3.

The room was river facing so we thought we would have a nice view.. sadly not it just overlooked a roof. It was a nice a size room and had a sofa in it. The bathroom was very small and up a little step. The bed was ok, wooden and just a standard double size.

You can tell that the rooms are not very well looked after, they need a bit of a freshen up and with room 3 being right by the stairs you get a lot of noise in the night. Also very creaky floorboards.

The cleaning standard isn’t great, we dirtied some towels on the first day and they was left there and not touched at all. This isn’t quite what you expect from a 4 star hotel. They also open the windows which should be down to customers choice although the weather was nice it meant some flys and knats got in.

Breakfast is pretty standard, not the best coffee, they would do better with a machine instead of the old pot but that’s just choice.

We had dinner in there one night, quite expensive and not a great choice. Menus also different to what is in the booklet in the room.

I gave it 3 stars as we had a voucher for 2 night stay.. we did however pay for 1 more night and our dog.

We loved the area and the Forest of Dean, but will not being choosing to stay at this hotel again.

We stayed two nights. On arrival they changed our room from a family room at the back (the only one left when we booked) to a double at the front which we thought would be great with a river view. The view was over a flat roof with a slight glimpse of the river! The 'en-suite' was a separate sink in one corner and in the other corner a step up to the very small shower and toilet (no sink); this seemed to be very badly designed and could be dangerous with the step up in the middle of the night. Breakfast was OK but have had better. Service was quite slow. They ran out of ice and one of the real ales. We had a meal there on the second night - cheapest main course £15 for ham, egg and chips! My husband had the pie which was mediocre and the vegetables were not good at all. Having spent a night at an Old English Pub chain, there is no comparison. This is not good value for money. They obviously charge for the position not the quality.

Went for a two night stay for wifes birthday dirty stair carpet dingy room over priced and deplorable food that you would not give to a dog ,10 quid for 2 pints of nameless lager as for the dinner we both had welsh rarebit it was vile, toast burnt cheese a strange brown colour spring onions so tough we could not eat them , we then had a chicken dish that was equally inedible chicken was so tough and dry we could not eat it looked about 2 days old we were supposed to be there 2 nights but we checked out the following morning after trying the most greasy breakfast ever should have stuck with the cornflakes ,
iF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT COMING HERE , THING AGAIN !!!!!!!!
