Samed Club now called Aqua Beads resort

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 15 Feb 2023via mobile
Aqua Beads located in a quiet area of the island. The hotel is clean, the staff friendly and always smiling. The beach is small and almost private. We had room 102 right on the beach which has a great view. The breakfast was good, choice of eggs, toast and fruit. Rooms have tea and coffee and a fridge. The pool area is good if that’s your thing. The pool is about 12 metres long. If you like swimming in the sea be warned. There are sea urchins when the tide is out and as I found if you do long swims also sea lice. I noticed getting little stings as I swam but didn’t think anything of it. I then came out in little red lumps that we thought were mosquito bites and it wasn’t until after a fair few days that we worked out what it was. There are also mosquitoes around at night so you’ll need anti mosquito spray. A few restaurants around the hotel which are okay, a bar that does decent cocktails about a ten minute walk away and a slightly more up market restaurant at the Ban Ploy hotel. Very few guests at the hotel so we more or less had the place to ourselves. You can hire scooters very easily and they’re cheap if you want to explore the island.
Date of stay: February 2023
Room Tip: Be careful of sea urchins and sea lice bites in the sea. Bring mosquito repellent.

I paid about AUD$150 a night which I think was higher than what it should’ve been. It was a last minute booking, so I do have to take some blame for that.

The “club” is actually ok, it’s just at that price point I expected more. It’s nothing like the swanky resorts on the other side of the island and it is a little bit isolated, but this is not really an issue as the island is so small that getting around is really easy and quick (we hired a motorbike from next door for 300 bhat a day which was really good value).

The pool is ok, not the largest ever and it doesn’t really have a killer view. The beach is nice and looks back towards the mainland. If you want to have a nice quiet time without much hussle and bustle then this is a good spot for you.

The room was ok. Big bed and hot shower. You might want to get the staff to spray your room as mosquitoes were buzzing around.

We got dropped off and picked up by the speedboat that you get at the terminal on the mainland. That was about 700 bhat return for two. Also don’t be surprised when you stop at the police pontoon and have to pay the 200 bhat national park entrance fee.

Arrival and check I at Rayong office and bag drop through to boat crossing all very well organised. Hotel close to Pier (10 min taxi) and located on peaceful and uncrowded beach. Hotel small and rooms immaculate - powerful showers which is a pleasant surprise for Samet.Swimming pool new and great for the kids. F&B poor - food over priced (45 baht for a water and Thai food way over market pricing for simple dishes) Also 45 minutes to prepare a simple cheeseburger for the kids??? Breakfast disappointing. Main grief was the amount of midges / sandflies (not mosquitoes) - whilst hard for a resort to control - zero warnings from the hotel. All the family bitten heavily and no mention of the problem from hotel.

We wanted to visit the island of Ko Samet 2 hrs south of Bangkok and chose this hotel to stay 4 days. Samed group has a slick checkin system and transport to the resort. Not a sophisticated resort, rooms nice with a pool at the centre. What made the visit for us was the friendly team who looked after us and a real pleasure to be there. The resort has direct access to the beach, which is kept clean and the waters are warm to walk into. The restaurant does a selection of Thai and Western food very competent. Go there for a simple, relaxed and fun experience as a base to visit the island, supported by a warm and customer focused team.

Great place to visit quiet and relaxing. The staff are great and they will do anything for you. Food was great for dinner breakfast and snacks. Enjoyed the cocktails as the sun was setting and after as well. Would recommend it to anyone. Rooms are large and very accommodating

Took a short ferry ride from Bangkok to island. Cozy little accommodation. Everything was great. Walk right out to the pool. No chairs on beach but the pool is close enough. Thai restaurant located on site which serves tasty food.
