Had the afternoon tea and it was superb. Lovely choice of sandwiches and fillings were plentiful. Scones homemade and very nice and the cakes were amazing. Plenty of tea and coffee. The 2 guys were very helpful and even put the leftovers into a box for us to take home. We noticed other meals being served up and they all looked lovely. Would definately recommend and be back.

One of the men that works there had a filthy shirt on (I know, we should have left at that moment but had already ordered drinks). We were served our food and was left waiting for cutlery, which we went and collected from counter in the end. We had to send back one teacup and two knives that were dirty. I ordered a cream tea with scone, never got the cream tea and when went to counter to let the man know he was very abrupt and said “you have the scone there, are you telling me part of your order is not there?” Tried to explain that yes, I have the scone, cream, jam etc., but not the cream tea! He couldn’t seem to comprehend what I was saying and I gave up in the end as it wasn’t worth the hassle.
Sat by window and window ledge was dirty with crumbs etc., when I took my daughter to the toilet we passed where the bread was stored..... on the floor!! The toilets are the filthiest I have ever seen, my life, had I seen them before we ate I would have left, because I dread to think what the kitchen was like! How they got a 5 hygiene rating I don’t know, must have been Mr.Magoo that carried out the inspection.
Will NOT be eating here again and wouldn’t recommend.

A friendly, compact tea rooms with helpful staff that smile! Murals around the cafe depict scenes from Dickens novels, giving a feel of the Dickens era. The food is very good, reasonably priced, and very nicely presented, ideal for a special treat with friends or family.
