Its humid and hot! Take bug spray and sunscreen. If your on a cruise organise a day trip, its the best way to see the beautiful town and people. There is also plenty of taxis waiting at the cruise terminal ready to take you into town for 5K.

The port is a good 25-30 minute walk from town. There is a supermarket you can stop at midway for cold drinks etc. There is a small museum and a few random markets just outside the port gates.

Went on a cruise to 4 islands in this area , very sad the way they live but beautiful people , we took school books and pencils for the schools and the most appreciated was sand paper for the carvers , they gave gifts in return as they were so thrilled. Would love to go back with more

A gentle stroll into town in searing heat and high humidity was all that we managed. We passed a local market and a war memorial.

On a Princess cruise around OZ. I think there is a legal requirement to visit another country port once on any trip. Alotau got the nod. Extreme poverty, hope our few dollars helps. So sad.
