.y husband and I were driving through Zion this evening because we are newly-minted locals, and we decided to stop here for dinner. The view from our table was breathtaking, and the jazz playing in the background was lovely.
After a slightly-longer-than-normal wait, Robert picked up our table and the service was outstanding.
I decided to forego the alcohol, but noticed that the wines were pretty reasonably priced.
My husband enjoyed his Caesar salad, accepting the offer of whole anchovies on top. Rather than a gloppy mess, the dressing was a wonderful compliment to the crisp romaine lettuce. My best salad with goat cheese and pistachios was a pretty presentation that tasted just as good as it looked.
My husband ordered the crab stuffed shrimp, which had good flavor but were a bit overcooked. The side of not-your-mother's creamed corn more than made up for it, though - delightfully cheesy. The rice was fluffy and delicately flavored with herbs and a hint of an orange sauce.
My scallops were outstanding - large, fresh, delicately sauced and perfectly cooked. I skipped the potatoes normally served with the dish, and doubled up on the grilled vegetable medley - and was so glad I did. Green beans, zucchini, broccolini, red pepper, and onions were sauteed to a perfect, slightly crisp texture rather than being regarded as an afterthought as is the case in many establishments. We were very happy that the food is not oversalted, either.
We were too full for coffee or dessert, but I know we will take another drive specifically to try the chocolate banana bread pudding, the vanilla bean creme brulee, a glass of port and a cappuccino.
The only negatives I could possibly point out were exceedingly minor. First, the focaccia was underdone with an overly doughy texture, even though the balsamic dipping sauce was very flavorful. And the bottom chair cushions are wearing out, thin and peeling in places. But I feel like this is extreme nitpicking. Our experience was a delight, and we'll definitely be back!
