The Ilima Hotel was great. My brother and our wives began planning this trip several months ago and were shocked at how expensive the hotels in Waikiki / Honolulu have become since our last trip many years ago. We wanted to be a short walk from the beach and not in a loud area,
When I came across reviews for the Ilima and saw the affordable (relative to similar places) I thought it might be too good to be true, I am glad to report that all of the great reviews of this place are true.
First the staff: Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. Housekeeping did a great job and the front desk greeted us as we came and went and answered our questions.
The room: We had a Deluxe Studio and were pleasantly surprised how big the room was. We had a King Bed plus a Full sized bed, a dining table, several chairs, a lanai (balcony) with its own table and chairs. The kitchenette had a full sized fridge, a microwave and two burner stove. It was better stocked with plates and cooking pots and pans than most airbnb's I have stayed at. The bathroom was standard sized and everything was clean and working.
The Hotel: The place was kept very clean and in good shape. there are two elevators and they worked great and rarely a wait. The pool was small, but hey, you have a great beach minutes away. They have a tiny gym with a treadmill and something else that escapes me.
Location: I LOVED the location. It was 10 minutes to the beach, and 5 - 15 minutes to pretty much everything in the heart of Waikiki. The hotel next door had some type of pool parties in the pool / bar area that created some noise, but it ended by 10pm or so.
The Parking Garage: Amazingly this place has a FREE parking garage. It is small, I did not count the number of spots, maybe 25 or so, they are fist come, first served, each and every day... we rented a car for a couple days and there were plenty of spots. They spots are tight... the smaller the car the better. You might have trouble with a full sized one.
I saw some folks mention beach towels, some saying they did not have them.... The do have them, just go to the front desk and they will give them to you.
General tips: There is a short term car rental company now in Oahu called Hui, you get the app, setup and account and you can rent cars by the hour or day. Prius' and Camry's ran $15 an hour during our trip (Nov 2022), the company has cars all over the area, typically in nearby hotel garages. You unlock the car via the app, all gas, insurance, etc, are included in the hourly fee, we used them several times for excursions where Uber was too much $$$ and for a Costco and grocery store run.
Another time we used "One's Car Rental" where you can rent cars by the day from $65 a day, all fees included (not including gas) For that you need to think ahead a bit.
I would highly recommend the Ilima for price, quality, staff, location, pretty much everything.

Been here a week and all you hear from 9am to 5pm is two jackhamners going constantly. Shakes the building and resonating deep into your body as you try to sleep or relax. Seems to me management was being cheap and cutting corners by having only a couple guys do a big job when they coulda hired a team to come in a complete it fast so it doesn't inconvenience the couple hundred people in the immediate area.

Whoever put this construction job together should be fired for lack of consideration to guests and neighbors just to save a couple bucks. Shame on you.

My family and friends (6 adults) stayed at the Ilima Hotel on 10/22/22-10/27/22. We had a corner 2 bedroom suite with kitchen on the 5th floor. The suite had one room with a full size bed, 1 room with 2 twin beds, and a queen sofa bed in the living room. There was one bathroom. The hotel is conveniently located, ~1.5 blocks from the International Market and ~3.0 from the Royal Hawaiian Center. There are plenty of restaurants and stores in the area. The hotel has free parking. Spaces are limited and tight (we had a full size van), but we had no trouble finding a parking space each day (we tried to return to the hotel early!). Cups, plates, and utensils were provided as were a toaster and coffee maker. The kitchen had a good size fridge, stove and microwave. There was a dining table in the suite that had an annoying light fixture. It is huge and very low hanging which made it a bit dangerous for taller individuals. We constantly hit our heads on the sharp edge of the fixture! There was one TV in the suite, I believe it was a 50' or 52" model, but the reception was not good (stations kept getting pixelated). The faucet in the bathroom seemed too close to the edge of the sink, making it hard to use a washcloth. The shower was fine and hot water was not an issue. There is a good amount of counter space too. The ACs in the suite were very noisy but functional. The suite also had a balcony which was very relaxing. Wifi connection and speed was very good. Housekeeping was good, and we always had enough towels for all individuals in our party.
The price we paid for the suite was excellent and that and the location were the primary reasons we chose the Ilima. Despite the negatives mentioned above, we enjoyed our stay at the Ilima and would consider using it again when we return to Oahu in the future.

Room tip: Try requesting a room on a higher floor or away from the side facing the street. It can get a bit noisy late at night.

This hotel is wonderful value - huge rooms, kitchenette, and a great location, which is all we needed from our short stay. The staff are wonderful, and do whatever they can to help - a very early check in for us. We did not need the whistles and bells of a resort, and were very happy here. We would stay here again if we return to Honolulu.

The room was very large, with a nice kitchenette! We had a nice view of the canal and it was very walkable to the Main Street. The staff was very friendly with lots of recommendations. Definitely recommend!
