Fantastic location

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 Aug 2021
Location of the property is fantastic if you want to stay in this area. View from the Rainbow tower was our favorite of all the amenities. Staff is very friendly and helpful as well. Bali restaurant is the best. All others are not so much. This is definitely the place to visit as a family. Kids have access to a great size lagoon. We tried using the pools but the chairs were hard to come by unless you stand in line before the pool opens. Not the experience I was going for. The village is cute, lots of shops and adds to the ambiance. Overall it was a pleasant stay. The proximity to the Diamond head hike and the Hanauma bay is awesome. Also the Pearl Harbor and many other attractions.
Lots of people raved about Dukes restaurant, but it was a huge disappointment. Food was ok. Try Merrimans, that was outstanding!

We read a lot reviews regarding busy check-in line and terrible room conditions. So we did not expect much before our travel. There are indeed some drawbacks and inconvenience due to the high traveling volume. But we found HHV is not that bad as we expected.

- Check-in: When we arrived, the front desk has few people checking in and we basically did not wait at non-member check-in lines. On other dates and even at peak times, there were lines but not that long (looks like up to 10 minutes waiting, shorter than the line at Louis Vuitton lol). The long check-in time is mostly due to that everyone need to open phone browser, insert url, find and show their safe travel status to the front desk. So get it ready before checking-in will save you some time.

- Member benefits: Overall I feel being valued as a diamond member. 1) We were lucky receiving a room upgrade from partial ocean view room (at Tapa tower) to a ocean/marina view room at Rainbow tower with additional corner view to the city. 2) Hotel stuffs usually respond within 5 minutes to service requests when using in-app chat. 3) we did receive the dining credits that can be used in multiple restaurants on-site. Some cons: 1) we don’t get two bottles of water in room and need to get them personally from concierge desk where we were advertised about the timeshare rooms. So we bought water at ABC in the later days. 2) we did not fully utilize the dining credits because all our lunches and dinners are out of hotel, and on-site dining are full of ppl waiting in the morning. The in-room dining service is not at good value compared to dining out even you apply the dining credits.

- Room condition (Rainbow Tower): Most rooms facing north-west in Rainbow Tower can only see the marina and the main pool (like a lake). If you love to see the ocean, you’d better choice another side (not sure if they are ocean views or ocean front views). Lower floors on our side can hear the Laua very clearly every evening between 6-8 pm. So if you’d like quiet and peace, ask the front desk for a higher floor. Our room was clean and we didn’t have any issues described in other reviews (may because rainbow tower is relatively new compared to others).

- Service: Staffs are nice. The room clean will be done every three/four days unless requested. And you can request to replace towels everyday (put used towels in a bag outside your door and the staff will replace it). If you have the HH app, request services via online chat will receive quicker response.

- Transportation: Waikiki area were really busy. If you itinerary is mainly about foods and shopping nearby, I suggest not rent a car and use Lyft/Uber. Lyft usually needs longer waiting but you can get on at Lobby. If you go to DFS/Royal Hawaiian Center, you can also do short-time bicycle rental (Biki) which is more convenient.

As a final suggestion, lower you expectation before travel will make you enjoy the trip better, as everything’s busy in Waikiki/Ala Moana area.

Room tip: Self parking costs $59/night. Local roads in Waikiki and Ala Moana areas are busy and driving is exhausting.

Aloha Ethan,
Thank you so much for staying at Hilton Hawaiian Village and for your thoughtful review. We are happy to hear you enjoyed our friendly staff and your time with us. Regarding lines at restaurants and at the front desk, restrictions are still in place and this can cause longer than normal lines; we hope this wasn't too much of an inconvenience. As a valued Hilton Honors member we appreciate your stay and hope you'll come back and see us again soon.

Sincerely,
Guest Services Manager

Hilton Village at Waikiki Beach was a zoo. They have over built on the property and put too many units in for the amount of space and amenities they have available on the property. We stayed in the Rainbow Tower and it consistently look 10-15min (up to 35 min a couple of times) to get an elevator to leave our floor. The Rainbow Tower is clearly in need of a second bank of elevators and even the staff acknowledge this with sheepish grins. Rooms are a worn out and in need of a refresh.
Checking into the hotel took forever and when we did finally get to the counter they tried to put us in a smaller room we had not reserved. Pulled up my booking on my phone and to their credit the lady got us moved to the correct room.

Food options on property were not very impressive, paid $25 for a Greek Salad that looked equivalent to a $5 salad you would get from a gas station. Lines for just about every restaurant were at lease 15 people deep. Other meals were okay, but mediocre at best. Best meals of the trip were all off site.

On a positive note, the hotel staff, when you could find them, were always nice and cordial. Feel a bit guilty writing this as it don't think any of the fault lies with them. They are on a sinking ship and have been given few resources to keep things afloat. Corporate arm needs to put in a major capital investment into this property to make things function properly.

Not sure if this was all a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic or what? But this place is in need of some serious reassessment by the corporate arm. A bit more focus on providing a quality experience to customers spending $500+ a night for a hotel room would be a good place to start. All the units are already built so I am not sure how you control the crowds but again, there are too many units on this property compared to the amenity space available.

Checking out today after having spent the last 10 days here. My thoughts, if you want to go on a carnival
Cruise but never leave land, this is for you. For some reason, this “resort” is the Walmart of resorts. Lines for EVERYTHING. You want a Starbucks coffee in the morning? Minimum 30-45 minute wait. Beach chair or umbrella? Way overpriced and that’s assuming one is even available and the line for that is 45-60 minutes consistently. The rooms were dank and the “ocean view” we upgraded to, overlooked a parking lot but…if you craned your neck their was at glimmer of water. Lounge chairs near the pool FORGET IT unless you were willing to lay towels down at 8 AM and leave them unattended all day (which by the way is what most people do). I have never been so disappointed in a vacation and I just spent the last week + In freaking Hawaii. Oh and as has been mentioned in other reviews, the check in lines are horrendous. Not sure why it takes 10 Minutes per person to give them a room key. I waited in the Hilton Honors line, my wife in the regular line and neither of us moved for 30 minutes. Please do yourself a favor and do a little more research before booking here, this place is absolute trash.

Room tip: Avoid this trash heap at all costs unless you like lines and to be nickel and dimed

Aloha Jared,
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your stay. Please know that we are operating at high occupancy levels at this time and the resort is busier than it has been in years. Though the staff is operating at a high execution level there may be longer wait times. We are working to reduce lines and use our staff to help expedite our check-in process. Please allow us another opportunity to host you in the future; we want to meet and exceed your expectations.

Sincerely,

Took almost 2hrs in line just to check in and wasn’t given a room until 7pm. The check in service was terrible. I spent almost 13k for 4 rooms for the family and we’ll definitely avoid this hotel at all cost.

We appreciate you notifying us of your stay. We sincerely apologize for the delay at check-in. Our staff is trying to decrease long lines in the lobby; however, the social distancing restrictions still in place, as well as the sudden increase in tourism, have made for unusual wait times. We continue to strive to improve the process. Our team hopes the rest of your stay was comfortable. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and please travel safely.

Rooms were comfortable, the property needs more restaurants and food options. Food was good but long wait times/lines and they close early. Additional entertainment options, especially after 8 PM, would be appreciated.
