A perfect place for staying at Waikiki beach

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 8 Aug 2021
It was our 3rd time staying at Hyatt Regency Waikiki. The location is unbeatable, right at the center of Waikiki across from the beach. It was convenient for almost everything. We enjoyed morning runs from the hotel. There were many good restaurants close by. And the kids enjoyed Dylan’s right at the hotel every day. It was sad to see some of the shops at the hotel were closed because of Covid. The staff were excellent as always. The kids enjoyed the pool every day until it was closed. Hyatt Regency Waikiki has become our favorite family destination on Oahu.

In actuality, I would give this place a 3.7-- pretty good.
My husband and I stayed here for 6 nights in a city facing room with a king bed in the ewa tower. We were in town for a wedding and utilized the hotel block, which saved us some money on the rate, resort fee, and parking.
We were pleasantly surprised by the large size of the room. It was actually quite huge, and very clean, although a bit barren and lacked personality. The bed was actually very comfortable as well. The down side was that it got very loud at night. There are daily concerts or something outside and while it ends relatively early, we were trying to on west coast time, so that was a bit of a problem. Luckily we always bring ear plugs when we travel so that helped.
The "premium" wifi included was garbage. I ended up just not using it because it was slower than dial up, if you remember what that was like.
The staff, particularly housekeeping, were friendly.
The hotel is very conveniently located across the street from the beach, and there are tons of stores and restaurants in a short walking distance nearby (altho good luck with all the long lines-- make reservations in advance if you can or get there really early).
As part of the resort fee, beach towels and chairs are available for daily use. Pick them up on the 3rd floor by the pool. It's probably a good idea to go in the morning if you want chairs, and just return them by 8.)
We didn't use it, but noticed that the pool is small (makes sense, with the ocean right there- but something to keep in mind if you care about that). The chairs are really dingy with lots of stains and could use a thorough cleaning or replacement.
If you can get by without a car, save yourself some stress and don't get one. The Hyatt parking garage is absolutely awful. It's super narrow and steep with tiny and limited number of spaces. I think the normal price of the parking garage is quite high (not sure how much- maybe $50/day ???, since ours was reduced on a wedding rate).
Overall, it's a decent place to stay, but not particularly memorable for the hotel class.

The location is great! Center of everything. We walked from the hotel to Diamond Head and then hike Diamond Head and walked back to the hotel all in 2hr time frame. Walked to different dining spots: Maui Brewing Company, Barefoot Beach Cafe, Steak Shack and Tlacuaches which were all very tasty. Because of being right on the main road I didn’t get a single night of full sleep. Lots of road/city noises (music, trash trucks, vehicles driving, etc)

Excellent stay for a week in August. Very fast check-in (arrived around 2pm) and friendly front desk. Nice, big, clean, oceanfront room with spectacular view. Each morning was lucky enough to catch a nice, big rainbow when a brief rain shower occurred!

Room cleaned as expected and housekeeping staff very friendly and awesome! Really took care of our every need. Thank you for the extra coffee provided daily without having to ask for it!

Used the club lounge frequently for a quick bite and drinks in the evening. Lounge has a great view of Waikiki beach and relatively quiet considering it’s location. Special thank you to Mark for making us feel welcome!

We had dinner at the Shor one evening and was really great. Very easy to make a reservation using Open Table app. Ryan was a fantastic server and made our celebration special. Swordfish, lobster tails, and steak were all excellent.

Towels and beach chairs available at the pool area every day and no lines. Never used the pool or hot tub but all looked to be open and well used by other guests.

If you are unvaccinated and concerned for COVID, most guests followed the masking rules. Expect an an occasional line at the elevator due to distancing rules. Never was more that 5 minute. Made the perfect opportunity to meet and chat with others!

Overall was a perfect trip, especially since it was our first vacation since the pandemic began. Thank you to everyone at Hyatt Regency for the Aloha.

Room tip: Use the water bottles provided in the room. Drop your chairs and dirty beach towels at desk in lobby entry (before you get to escalator)

Overall the hotel was good. Staff was not overly friendly though and the room was just above par. Felt it needed some TLC. I asked about the complimentary beach chairs as listed on the info sheet and they didn’t have a clue. Seemed hard to get hell with anything. Very busy

The property is very well located in the heart of all of the activities and my family had a great time during our 4 days. The concierge lounge was very limited service but they did provided some great service. The property is a bit dated and is asking for a renovation. Being a #Hyatt Globalist really helped us with an awesome stay overall.
