Spacious and bright rooms away from the crowds

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 Aug 2024via mobile
The location of the hotel is great for those that don't want to be in the mass crowds of Waikiki all the time. It allows a short walk to the tourist areas or to Ala Moana. At night even though you are in the quiet marina you feel very safe. The rooms are spacious and bright with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. Certainly a hotel and not a resort. We would certainly stay here again.

The “Modern” but doesn’t have valet or digital key. Overpriced compared to other Hilton properties on Oahu. Just an old hotel they slapped new paint and fixtures on. Don’t provide beach towels or any keep stake but they do give you complimentary boxed water…thats expired haha

Aloha molllllllosin_around,
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your stay. We sincerely apologize we did not meet your expectations during your stay with us. We will be renovating our property soon and do hope that digital key will be added as digital key is not possible with our current door lock system. We do apologize for the confusion with the boxed waters as the date printed on the waters is the production date and not an expiration date. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Mahalo!

This hotel was adequate, not what I normally experience with Diamond resorts. I was bummed we didn’t get a balcony. The room was a little strangely structured. The blinds between the bathroom and room were not enough for privacy. This is fine if you aren’t planning to be in your room much.

Room tip: Make sure that you get a wristband at the pool to prove you’re a guest, the service out there isn’t always great.

Room is a nice size. Platform bed has edges sticking out that are hazardous to guests. It seemed as if the hotel has queen size frames in place but uses double mattresses so there is a gap that if you are not paying attention could hurt you. There is an empty mini fridge, ours was not plugged in, and a microwave. Water pressure is strong.

Window does not block any noise from the outside and it feels as if your window is open or that you are sitting outside, you hear cars, people chatting on the street, although we were on a high floor. Make sure to pack ear plugs. Nice view from the window.

Grim hallway. You have to wait a while to get an elevator. Small pool. No self serve laundry, surprising given that these units are supposed to serve longer term stays. We found a laundromat attached to a 7/11 10 minute walk from the hotel.

You don’t get much for the resort fee, there is one activity for adults per day. You can find a McDonalds, ABC store, Vietnamese, Red Lobster and a pizza place around the corner. Hotel’s pool bar offers somewhat overpriced food, happy hour specials and a kids menu.

Front desk staff was not willing to offer early check in or late checkout. If you ask, they will give you 2 water cartons per day, but you have to ask for it, no water in the room.

I think that for the location the rate we got was not bad, but there are other options that offer more amenities, albeit a bit pricier.

The staff was lovely, and the location is excellent. Other than that, I was disappointed in my stay. First, the hotel claims to have an adult pool and a regular pool. The regular pool was rather small for how many units this place has, and it was always crowded. The adult pool isn't really a pool, but just a shallow water area where you can relax on a lounge chair with some sand next to it. The beds in the rooms are hard anduncomfortable. They have queen bases, but double matresses, which is not just odd but makes the room less comfortable and is also a hazard because there is a gap between the mattress and the floor, I tripped or banged myelf more than once getting in and out of the bed. The room was tired, mirror in bathroom needed to be replaced, holes in curtains.
But the worst aspect was the complete lack of noise mitigation in the window. We were on the 8th floor, but the street noise sounded like were outside. My wife was sure the window was open, but it wasn't. Maybe the worst noise mitigation I have encountered in a brand-name hotel.

Room tip: Given the noise issues, try to get a room away from the street.

The staff members here were very pleasant and helpful.
Parking was tricky, and originally, we weren't told about an overflow lot, but that was rectified.
The rooms are a little small, but clean. However, I would never get bed frames like these. Each of us hit a foot or ankle as the frames stick out quite a bit from the mattresses and box springs. It's a style, but that was a big negative.
The shower was a bit of an issue. There was no soap when we arrived as they use those bottles that are attached to the wall and evidently don't check them between guests. There was no bench or even corner of a tub to put up a leg for shaving, and no safety bar to grab while balancing on one leg with a sharp razor. The water pressure was good, though.
A previous occupant had set the alarm clock, which woke us way too early, especially given the time change. Staff should be familiar with the clocks and how they work and routinely check them when they clean the rooms. We never dreamed one would be pre-set.
Service wasn't daily. We didn't get clean towels every day, for example. That would be fine if there was enough space to spread out the towels after each use, but there wasn't. They stayed damp between each use and got a little smelly after a couple days. It's not that pleasant to try to dry off with a damp towel, either. The hooks didn't allow the towels to dry completely, unfortunately.
The toilet paper roll was awkwardly placed, and the paper rubbed against the wall and side of the toilet when full. Not sure how sanitary that is.
I'd book a room away from the elevators. The elevators were noisy. We weren't close to them, and we could still hear them. But I will say that the wait for an elevator was short, and they moved quickly and smoothly.
Overall, we liked the staff a great deal but weren't thrilled with the rooms. They were standard and meh.
