Extremely good tourist RR experience! Loved the open cars interspersed between the air-conditioned passenger cars. Guests were assigned to one open car next to their assigned passenger car, so they didn't roam back and forth through the train, as on some other tourist RRs. Much better arrangement!
Had long conversation with docent Mandy, a former Brit who now lives in Arizona and loves it. She was really knowledgeable about the history and sites along the way, which enhanced the journey.
The price for this ride was rather high, but it was definitely worth it!
Included in the fare was a glass of champagne or cider plus a covered tray with cheese, crackers, meats, fruit, and a brownie -- all very tasty! A cash bar was also located in each passenger car.

This was my first time visit to the part of the Southwest. As a "railfan" and a person who works with tourist railroads this was a dream come true...well almost.

After driving out from Sedona we headed to Clarkdale, Jerome and Cottondale to do some exploring. We arrived at the Verde Canyon Railroad early and I wondered around for a few minutes taking photos and seeing if any employees were available. I entered the store only to be told that they were closed today...The station and giftshop was also very impressive.

I introduced myself to the people working in the giftshop, left a business card and then headed out to go visit Jerome next...

There are only first class seats now. When you arrive there is a light snack waiting for you at your table and the bartender hands you a glass of champagne. The car is air-conditioned and the seats are comfortable. Many people enjoy the car that is outside which enables you to take wonderful pictures as you roll by.
It is something that you would like to do once. I do not feel the need to do it again.

One trip per day in the afternoon- maybe this is seasonal but when we went it is 1pm no choice. It is a four hour round trip. Comfortable indoor seating or outside viewing available. Appetizers included. Drinks available for purchase.

Those first class seats are worth the extra charge They are only $10 above a regular seat, and each passenger enjoys a tray of treats, including fruit, cheeses, meats, and brownies. Our attentive server/hostess also filled in for the lagging narrative that explains the sights as the train rolls down the tracks. And to top it off, during our return to the station she came through with ice cream sandwiches for $1.

Thank you for joining us James and we are glad that you enjoyed the experience. Those ice cream sandwiches certainly are a welcome treat when we get ready to leave Perkinsville.
