Owner description: With more than 8,500 animals on 56 acres, there's plenty of fun for the whole family. The San Antonio Zoo was first established with a donation from George W. Brackenridg in the 1800s. Two of the first cageless exhibits in the U.S. opened here in 1929 and the bird collection is one of the world's largest.

First trip to San Antonio to visit a cousin. (April) We are both in our 60's and appreciated all of the shady trees, benches to sit and plenty of in door exhibits. April was the perfect time, not too hot and with nice breezes. I was excited to see lots of enclosures with windows to view the animals. The outdoor exhibits were pretty large so I was happy to have my iPad and a camera with a long 70-300 lens. Overall it was a great way to spend a few hours. We were sorry we only had 2 hours, we could have used one more hour.

We live near the Philadelphia Zoo. We actually enjoyed this smaller zoo even more. The variety of animals and birds is fantastic. So many more warm weather animals. The zoo is compact and in a circular fashion. Start and do the whole tour in clockwise fashion. Lions, tigers, bears, gazelles, ton of birds, giraffes, elephant, reptiles, ... a very FUN zoo to visit while you are visiting San Antonio. and inexpensive, look online for discount tickets.

This zoo was a great way to spend a few hours. Not overpriced like a lot of zoos. Free parking. A little heavy on birds but overall really nice.

My niece always enjoys going to the zoo here. They continue to grow and add more exhibits. We also seem to find a new area each time even though it seems like we have seen the whole zoo.

First visit to this zoo. Really well kept and clean. Animals were interesting some shaded up due to the heat by noon here.
Rode the kiddie train, that was enjoyable also.
