We just stayed one night on our tour of New Zealand. Room 6 was upstairs,spacious and well equipped. The only slight disappointment was that it didn’t have an outside sitting area which would have nice as the weather was very warm. However, the motel is close to all amenities,the staff were pleasant and helpful and I am happy to recommend Punga Grove as a good place to stay.
The apartment had all we needed and was spotlessly clean. The kitchen area is a bit cramped, but that was fine and we managed OK. There is a full oven; not many motels have this available. There was a self-serve laundromat next door to our room, so it was handy to get on top of washing. There is a welcoming feel to Punga Grove Resort and I do recommend it as a place to stay and relax. The staff were great. The price is reasonable. It’s a 3 minute walk to restaurants and the local supermarket. Everything worked well, and over our two days there, we were able to explore the Franz Joseph Glacier and also the beach area. Highly recommended!
Spacious unit. Steep flight of stairs to bedroom but that was fine.
The weather wasn't great, but handy location helped and we walked most places.
Housekeeping was wonderful, wasn't expecting them to clean up after our lunch
Reception staff gave good info re restaurants, this was helpful as some were closed.
The Punga grove motel is a clean appointed motel in a one street town of Franz Joseph. It serves the purpose for a one night stay. Kitchenette in the room is nice if you want to make your own breakfast. Nothing is open in town before 9:00am for a bite to eat. We ended up leaving for Hokitika early to have breakfast there.
Easy booking process. Very friendly staff and welcome. Very helpful with information and recommendations. Good sized rooms with comfortable beds. Clean and cheerful. I’d be happy to recommend and stay there again. Easy walk to restaurants and activities.
