Beautiful view, quiet and cozy place to stay

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 10 Aug 2024via mobile
Beautifully set under the mountains and very close driving distance to some major viewing sites. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Had a nice supper here, and many guests were taking advantage of the sauna/hot tub in the evening (note: not included, must pay extra). The breakfast that was included with our stay was fantastic, nice assortment of cheeses, breads, fruits and even smoked salmon. Would highly recommend this as a stopping place for 1-2 nights. Our time here was short but well enjoyed.
Date of stay: August 2024
Room Tip: Lots of parking available, there is a lift for luggage but primary access to rooms on upper floor...

The hotel is amazingly located and the people working there are the best ever. However, they accept groups and that is a BIG problem. We were there when a group of 17 girls was there and nothing worked properly. Restaurant reservations and everything was an issue. If they stop accepting groups I will give this place as many stars as possible.

Room tip: Call and avoid reserving when big groups are there.

Well located for exploring the south coast, Skálakot Manor hotel is a laid back, quirky and quaint horse farm stay with friendly staff. (I’d characterize it as more of an “inn” than a traditional hotel.) If you’re active and enjoy hiking, ask for ideas from the front desk. They directed us to a beautiful one hour hike (up) to a waterfall in the canyon behind the nearby “tractor museum.”

The hotel is very charming and the service is very good. Although breakfast starts at 8am they were accomodating as we needed to start earlier. Also location is very nice. I’d give it 5 but there were a couple of issues. First mouse at night. they put the smoking corner right under the front rooms so we had a few people sitting outside and being a bit load and the noise goes straight to your room. This stopped eventually but you don’t need to worry about such things when you pay this price and want a quiet luxury stay. Second they have SPA and hot tubs but you still need to pay extra to use them. Third, although this was recently built the bathroom is a little claustrophobic and very small. You hardly can put a toothbrush next to the sink. Not sure why they don’t give more space to bathrooms in such the property when you build it from scratch.

We did not stay at this hotel, but did a horseback riding tour and then had dinner at the hotel. The horseback ride was beautiful and a highlight of the trip. The tour guide was a young lady from Germany that was very knowledgeable on Icelandic horses. She helped us pick rain gear, gloves, and helmets for the ride. She stopped by a waterfall on the property for a photo op. Dinner was great and in a charming restaurant at the hotel adjacent to the stables.

Room tip: The stables provide rain gear, helmets, and gloves. There's a very clean bathroom available at the stables.

This hotel was my travel agents recommendation on our journey around Iceland. It was a great base point for doing all the activities available along the south coast. The food was delicious and authentic. The people were very friendly and the service was great. Horseback riding is a must. The hotel is set at the base of a mountain and the scenery is beautiful. I will be staying there again when I go back.
