There are many waterfalls within a short walk at this site. It is an easy walking path takes you to each one. The main falls is has a trail that leads you up and behind the falls. This is something not to be missed. It might be a bit tricky for those with mobility issues. The path behind the falls is wet, rocky and can be slippery. Seeing the falls from behind was an incredible experience. Wearing waterproof gear is a must, you will get wet. The falls at the pathway to the left of the main falls is unique. You can enter a large cave and see the falls cascading from above. We were there on a sunny morning so the light was incredible inside.
This is a beautiful waterfall and incredibly accessible. I also love the setting with the massive long green cliffs and surrounding smaller waterfalls. And you get to walk behind this waterfall. Plus the waterfall in the cave nearby is the actual BEST waterfall in Iceland and you can do both waterfalls together.
This is an Iceland must-see. Parking is easy, and includes real plumbing bathrooms accessible for park goers. This is the waterfall you can walk behind and enjoy the views behind the curtain of beautiful water flowing. The rainbows are endless. The physical activity is not super demanding, though rocky and a bit slippery.
Beautiful and wet!! Come prepared with rain gear. Just a note, well deigned stairs and railing. Love the sound and smell. Food and drinks available with a fine gift shop.
Where in the world can you so easily park a car, approach the waterfall and see a rainbow and then walk behind the water and see it all from "the other side" ? This was our 2nd time and it's just like a fairy tale type of stop
Similar to Skogafoss I would recommend arriving in the afternoon, or at the very least not first thing in the morning, as this waterfall in particular faces more west than south so you want the sun to hit and bring up the colors, and potential rainbows :)
You need to pay for the parking here, but contrary to most paid parkings around Iceland you actually have a machine that you can pay it with a card, but also can use the website/QR code as well. At least the restrooms are "free " :) I guess the cost of parking does that, at Skogafoss parking is free but restrooms/toilets cost $ :)
There is a nice souvenir store here and even some food with sandwiches/pastries to go
