Minimal restaurant offer

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 26 Aug 2016via mobile
We stopped by this hotel to have lunch, having read some favourable reviews about its restaurant (although they were dated to 2015). I guess some major changes must have happened since because nowadays (I don't know if it functions this way at all times) it only has one main course available (in our case, it was Lasagna with salad - it was OK) and it wasn't expensive (ISK 7.600 for four people, without drinks). Afterwards we visited the Exhibition about Mt. Hekla and volcano eruptions in Iceland. It's a paying exhibition.

Hello.
I'm sorry for the misunderstanding - the evening menu is bigger and has got 4 main courses, 4 starters and 5 desserts. The lunch menu is usually just set with the dish of the day. I hope you will return to our nice place later on and stay for the dinner menu ;)

All the best,
Fríða, general manager

We stayed for 2 nights and thought it as a clean comfortable hotel. The restaurant was good. The issue we had was there was no orientation to the hotel when we arrived. We only found out about the pool and hot tubs when we were leaving as they are not visible from the hotel -my kids would have enjoyed them.

Very basic basic room with not much space. Room had some dirty spots, but overal it was clean. Good shower, with steady flow of hot water, that could be closed so not the whole bathroom was getting wet. The main big +++ was that the room could be made absolutely dark. Dinner was quite good actually, shame the second beer wasn't cold.

Outside pool was intimate and stylish, but full of moss and dangerously slippery. Only internet in the lobby. Upstairs there was a cozy little room for relaxation which worked pretty wel.

Museum was fun and informative. I wouldn't mind if was a bit bigger with the same style and kind of information.

A very basic hotel, that's all to it.

I booked the Hotel Leirubakki off of Travelocity (I stuck to Gnome-only bookings this trip) and while it was listed in Hella it was more like 30 miles Hella adjacent (LESSON ALERT: always map where your hotel is. Town borders are so large that while you may be “in” a town, you may be 30 miles from the Ring Road.) BUT! Leirubakki was a pleasant surprise. The small room was a big hit with mother and sister (and while I booked a “shared bathroom” we actually ended up with our own bathroom en suite) even though it was 3 single beds and a closet sized bathroom. We were pleasantly surprised to find the beautiful hotel restaurant with it’s stunning view of the volcano Mt. Hekla. Gull (another favorite Icelandic beer) and red wine, and a piece of Hjónabandssaela aka Happy Marriage Cake (think oatmeal rhubarb crumble pie) capped off another perfect day in Iceland. Internet was only available in the lobby or the lounge was one of the only bummers.

      Hey!
Thank you so much for your lovely review. I'm sorry that you thought our hotel was closer to Hella - but if you look at Icelandic postal codes; 850, 860, 800 etc. - are postal codes for towns or cities, but 851, 861, 801 are postal codes for farms in the neighbourhood; out of the city.

We're so glad that you enjoyed our facilities, food and refreshments and look forward to welcoming you here again sometime in the future.

On the behalf of Leirubakki team I wish you all the best,
      Fríða.

Very nice place, great food and the staff was really friendly and helpful.
We arrived on a sunny day and we enjoyed it in one of the three hot tubs they have there.
We will defiantly stay there again some day.
