We booked Heimaland for one day, thinking this is our interim stop for a long travel between Reykjavik and Vik. The moment we arrived which was quite late in the day, we were greeted by the family who showed us around and also told us the stories around the area. We immediately felt in love with the place and decided that we will stay there for one more night despite we had already booked and paid for another guesthouse at Vik.
The mid night sun, which can largely be seen just at their backyard, were marvelous (see some photos taken there). We love the beautiful and quiet environment there. The family also breed Icelandic Horses and you can get close and touch them if you want to. There are also many birds around, one of which actually have a nest with three eggs in it just in their frontyard.
They gave us some suggestions to visit the Hekla Volcano and Landmannalaugar which was quite fun with our 4 wheel drive. Dinner at the guesthouse was beautifully cooked.
The only thing that is less than ideal is the walls between rooms are perhaps a bit thin and when there are other occupants in the next room, we will at times heard the noise from them. But we don't really stay inside the room for long time due to the beautiful environment and hence not a big issue. You could also choose to stay at their Cottage which will give you good privacy and quietness.
When we visit Iceland next time, we will certainly go back to Heimaland Guesthouse again.
