Beautiful hotel

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 24 May 2024
I was a little afraid at seeing the front of the hotel because it looks...kind of plain, kind of like a motel, especially after spending five hours in luxury at the Retreat Spa at the Blue Lagoon.

But this hotel was beautiful, more of a boutique hotel but we loved it. The front desk was professional and kind, the small lagoon area was perfect right before bed and in the morning after breakfast, and there were never more than three people in it at a time.

The rooms were gorgeous, and we had a beautiful view of the lagoon.

The breakfast served was outstanding. So many choices and so wonderfully presented!

And there were two seating areas with views of the lagoon that were so peaceful and relaxing. They even had soft throws on them to make the experience more cozy.

I would definitely go back!

Worth the splurge!! We went to the hotel directly after landing at the airport at 7am. Obviously, our room was not ready yet, but the staff greeted us with smiles and told us we could relax in a number of beautifully appointed cozy areas or immediately take advantage of the private lagoon. We opted for the lagoon, changing in a lovely area with private individual showers and lockers. The lagoon was so private and beautiful!! We loved the silica masks. We floated and walked all around to the different areas: all very picturesque. The warm water and silica in the water was extremely curative for our skin and jet lag!! We were able to check in earlier than expected and our room was just beautiful. We looked out over the lava rocks covered in moss and the bed was so comfortable, and another beautifully designed space. We fell asleep immediately and woke in time to enjoy our dinner reservation at the Lava Restaurant at the Blue Lagoon a 7 minute walk from the Silica hotel, and lots of wonderful things to see along the way. The food at the Lava Restaurant was excellent, as was the wonderful service. We enjoyed the lagoon again before we went to bed at the hotel, and the staff gave us an algae mask to put on after the silica mask and sent us with a cream mask to put on overnight! So luxurious!! Breakfast at the Silica Hotel was the finest we had in Iceland. The buffet was presented like artwork, and the food!! The highest quality! We met the chef who told us they smoke their salmon right there and make the the gravlax in house too. The gravlax sauce was sensational! The baked goods, the yogurts, the fruits--it was over the top in the best possible way. We hated to leave this place of calm, beauty and exceptional hospitality!

Room tip: Talk to the front desk staff and they will help with wonderful, complimentary masks! Do NOT miss the fabulous breakfast!

There is no need to visit the Blue Lagoon if you stay at the Silica Hotel nearby. It has its own private lagoon which is almost empty most of the time, so you have it to yourself. Same blue water with steam rising. The staff are wonderful, breakfast is great, the room spacious (no view of the lagoon, though). The hotel is charming, comfortable, a veritable cocoon. Our two nights there were the highlight of our trip.

Room tip: The hotel serves breakfast but doesn't have a restaurant. For lunch and dinner, grab their limited sushi and sandwich plates early on.

I took my 25 yr old daughter on a birthday get away trip to Iceland and stayed at the Silica Hotel. I’m so happy we stayed here! The rooms are decorated in a simple but elegant Scandinavian style. The bed was just heavenly!!! The room was clean and the heated bathroom floor was a welcome surprise. I can’t say enough about the private lagoon! I read that most people preferred it to the blue lagoon and now I know why! It’s easy in and out, quiet (not over crowded like the blue lagoon) and the silica provides tones, towels and wet shoes. The service was excellent. They warned us about the possibility of the nearby volcano erupting and gave us a choice of 2 other hotels should we need to evacuate. Luckily for us, we did not need the back up plan. My heart goes out to all the people in Iceland affected by the eruptions. Please visit this little gem of a hotel! (And breakfast was fabulous!)

Room tip: Enjoy the private lagoon as often as you can!

Stayed here instead of the Blue Lagoon. This was less crowded than the BL which we really preferred. Had the hot springs to ourself a lot of the time and also the locker rooms.
Service was excellent, room was clean and very functional.
            Breakfast was fantastic!!
They will transfer you to the Blue Lagoon and also arrange airport transfer if needed.
If you want a more layer back and relaxed atmosphere I'd highly recommend this location.

Perfect for one night at the Blue Lagoon. Really relaxing experience and we all loved the private lagoon. Fabulous breakfast included. No evening dining options in the hotel itself so we visited Papas in Grindivak to avoid the very expensive Blue Lagoon restaurant. Blue Lagoon itself was very busy - felt like a tourist trap so we were grateful for the relaxing experience at Silica.
