We had an amazing happy hour dinner at Barolo. It is a fantastic bargain, providing 50% off of the Bar Menu. This isn’t any bar menu. We dined on Grilled Caesar Salad, a Prosciutto plate, Pasta Carbonara, and a bowl of Rigatoni in a beef and veal ragu. The food was delicious, maybe the best pasta we tasted in Seattle, and portions were huge. Service was Euro elegante, as our server Marcin was urbane and sophisticated, understanding both wine and cooking. Barolo was a big city experience, deserving of accolades.
Unfortunately, restaurant critics in Seattle favor the overly casual restaurants, where utensils are sticks, tables are bare, and the sound track indy homogeneous. Food is almost secondary to the scene. Barolo is the exception, elegant, classy, and with a kitchen that respects the classics. Great food does not need to be reconstructed. Barolo is one of the best restaurants in Seattle. With the happy hour deal, it is now accessible to anyone. Please go, enjoy, and see why a touch of class really isn’t pretentious. In today’s vituperative world, we all could use a little bit of class.
