We were there for lunch and it wasn't busy. The waiter was very nice but the food was just okay. I wouldn't recommend it.

We went back to this restaurant twice while in town for a weekend because the food was so good. The restaurant ambiance is exactly what I was looking for... reminded me of an old English pub, small, dark, intimate and has a great balcony perfect for watching parades! The Patton's Hot Sausage po bo is EXCELLENT. The gumbo was also great. I would suggest this restaurant over and over. I dream of returning to NOLA to go back!

Wanting to sample some local Cajun and Creole cuisine we scoured the French Quarter to find somewhere a little quieter than the bars and restaurants on Jackson Square. We dropped across Chartres House. Unmistakably French this quieter place had everything on the menu that we wanted. Although the lady who took us to our table was a little impatient (we tried to get a balcony but these are only for 2 people) with us however our waitress was fun and welcoming. She was happy to make suggestions from the menu as to the dishes we wanted to try.
The fried green tomato’s were excellent as was the alligator fillet. Not at all greasy. The crawfish bread was interesting but could have done with more crawfish. The taster mains were excellent where you could choose a combination of sample dishes. The Jambalaya was good, although it lacked a good amount of shrimp. The Gumbo was good, however the standout dish was the Étouffée which was excellent. My only disappointment was the temperature of the food. It was all a bit ‘lukewarm’ rather than piping hot. A little pricy but good to try the Louisiana fare.
