Friends married outside Pirate Cafe in alley by St. Louis Cathedral. Had a bite to eat on corner spots at both ends of square...delicious! People watching, art appreciation of individuals showing their creations. Loved my visit!!

This is a great place to see a lot of history. During the day and especially on weekends all shops are open and have a variety of wares from art to crafts to souvenirs. Take in all the iron work and diversity.
This is not a place for kids at night.

Just walk around and soak up the atmosphere. Plenty to see without spending any money unless you want to eat and drink.

The one night that we had not scheduled a late dinner happened to be a Saturday. So we really got to experience what Bourbon Street has to offer. Drinking while walking around is legal and encouraged. I didn't partake but there was a lot of it going on. People on balconies throwing beads (did see a few flashers). Constant struggle to move on the sidewalks and street. Lots of different people all jammed in to one 8-10 block strip. Do not take your kids at night. Glad I saw it. Glad I experienced it. Probably won't spend any more time on that street next time. Too much else to see.
You can also stroll it during the daylight hours and get a completely different vibe. The after-party clean up; the smell; the architecture; what a difference a few hours makes.
The shops are cool too. Be sure and stop in and check out some of the voodoo stuff and masks.
