“nice one day getaway from Phnom Penh”
Review of Bokor Mountain

Ranked #22 of 52 things to do in Kampot
Attraction details
Reviewed 29 June 2018

• It is nice place in the Kampot province – around 180 kms from Phnom Penh
• The bokor mountain is in the Preah Monivong Bokor National Park- Most of the park is about 1,000 metres above sea-level and the highest peak is Phnom Bokor at 1,081 metres, also referred to as Bokor Mountain
• The trip can be done in a one day time
• There used to be an old casino on the top of the mountain (abandoned Bokor palace hotel) which is now renovated and run by a large business house, so the pics of the haunting casino are all a thing of the past
• A large Lok Yeay Mao Statue- protector of the travellers , a large temple complex (wat sampov pram) and haunting misty views from the moutain are great memories you will take back
• The park and the roads are very well maintained
• You should go to the Popokvil Waterfall for sure to get a great view of the water rushing down, its a misty place and worth the effort
• One should also find time for the Bokor bird farm while on the mountain
• The business house running the casino and hotels on top of the mountain has maintained the roads very well and the place feels very clean and good to go again and again
• Given the warm weather all around, the weather on the mountain top is a welcome relief and must getaway for people trying to have a good time for a day,

We are travelling with our 18 & 23 year old sons who were each on their own motor bikes and my husband with me on the back of another bike. We took a trip out to Bokor for the day and were surprised to see the quality of the road all the way up the mountain. My eldest son hadn't really ridden a motorbike before and I'm a novice on the back but it's such an easy ride and really pleasant. Go during the week as weekends everywhere in Cambodia are more hectic. Take a long sleeve top too as about halfway up it can become quite cool which was a surprise. There isn't a huge amount to see and not really much in the way of food unless your part of a large Chinese tour so take snacks if you plan to just cruise along. There is a place you can get fuel near the top thankfully as we got low due to not planning well, ha! A really nice day out.

Had a short family getaway. Bokor mountain was nice and cool. Visited the old Catholic church and other places of interest. Nice coffee, food at the hotel. The Spa was great had a nice relaxing foot massage and the kids had a nice games room.

I found the place was quite boring , only view from the top and weather was amazing . If one love ruined then they might like the place , just like my husband . Perfdct for photography . Stictly advkce take a organised tour agency or bus reaching their bike was risky . A bonded building full of weeds and lichen . Old Church of french style was nearby .

We rented a $4 a day scooter to get up, around and back down the mountain. It took double the time to get up with 2 of us on a little bike but the scenery was worth the struggle. It got a little chilly and wet up at the top, luckily we had bought jumpers.
We saw the palace, which was nice to look at but that's about it. We went into the catholic church which was cool, but the view point from just up and behind it was the best - we couldn't actually see anything because we went on such a cloudy day, but the feeling of being surrounded by clouds on the top of a mountain was pretty cool. We saw an abandoned building and a 'farm' which was just a pen of ducks. We drove back past the Chinese temple and to the waterfall which even in the dry season is quite nice to go and climb around the rocks etc. After a few hours we felt we had seen everything and to head back down, we stopped at one last view point on the way down, below the clouds so we could see the city which was nice. All in all took us about 4 hours :)
