Owner description: Horseshoe Bend is the intimate Grand Canyon experience (although technically located in Glen Canyon.) The trailhead to this 3/4 mile hike is located just outside of Page, Arizona. It overlooks one of the most spectacular views on the Colorado River, 4 miles south of the Glen Canyon Dam, and 7 miles north of mile zero of the Grand Canyon.

Wonderful views but very hot though. The Rangers were excellent in helping those who were struggling with the heat.

Not the easiest place to walk to in 100 degree heat but worth it for the view. Just take enough water. It's 3/4 of a mile each way, with steep uphill at the beginning and the rest is downhill but in sand so it can be difficult for young children AND dogs. Hot sand. I almost didn't go, not because we are both seniors, but because I have a problem walking distances. It was doable even though it looks difficult. The uphill back can be challenging. This horseshoe bend of the Colorado River is spectacular.

This breath-taking view of a bend in the Colorado river is only minutes away from Page and Antelope Canyon. It is a must-see if you visit this area. The 15 minute walk to it is quite doable even in the intense heat, but remember to take extra water and be prepared to be awed!

It is a 1.1 mile roundtrip walk/hike from parking. If doing this in June or July, come early before it gets too hot. You walk uphill then down to the bend. They are building a safer viewing area with a metal rail fence. Where sneakers or hiking boots. Take water and a camera -- you really need a fisheye lens to capture the whole bend of the river. I managed to do a panorama. Be careful near the edge -- yes, sandstone can breakout. The beauty of the spot and the unique horseshoe bend of the Colorado River is spectacular. Like "Into the Grand", it is a must see anytime you come this way.

We went twice to Horseshoe Bend, once in the afternoon and once at sunrise. The afternoon was very crowded and the colors are washed out by the mid-day sun. We went again the next morning at 5:30am and there was only a handful of people and the colors were gorgeous to watch as the sun came up and illuminated the canyon walls and the river. Beautiful and worth getting up early for. It is only 5 min drive from Page.
