The met is such a lovely museum and a fun visit. The best part is its so huge, i have been many time sin my life but also twice in two weeks - its impossible to get bored and to see it all. Highly recommend the temporary Luxury and Legacy in the ancient americas exhibit though I believe it leaves soon. All of the permanent pieces are great but! if you ever have the chance to check out the Luce Center visible storage area - the met has so much stuff that doesn't even make it on display but there are some really cool examples to see some fascinating works.I believe this section is all American works but it is pretty cool. Really though you can't go wrong in any section of this museum. It is a lovely activity if its raining and if it is sunny, head to the park after. Pro tip- NYS licenses can pay "what they want" and if you're with a group only one of you needs to have a license.

Having hated the MOMA, I was a bit hesitant to try the Met. But, I was completely blown away. There are so many amazing exhibits that mix in a nice historical touch with more recent art. As with the MOMA, I simply do not get the modern art section. Instead of a shovel hanging from the roof (like at the MOMA), one of the pieces at the Met had pitchforks and other rusty farming implements.

At the MOMA, the crowds hover around the Van Gogh and you feel claustrophobic. At the Met, there is a roomful of Van Goghs that you can take your time to appreciate. But, also large collections of several of the masters (it is awe-inspiring to see Rembrandts up close). The Met is huge and perhaps that is why it did not feel too crowded.

The Egypt collection was spectacular. We ended up spending several hours in there.

As others have noted, it would take days and days to see everything. But, any amount of time spent there will be worthwhile.

There is no way that you can see the entire collection here on one visit. It is one of the most impressive collections I have ever seen. Well worth a visit.

It was literally more than I expected and more than I could see in one day. But great stuff, every corner you take brings more pleasant surprises.
