When booking my recent trip to Boston I came upon this property on the water and decided to give it a try. When traveling with family we like the convenience of the Residence Inn properties - pool, breakfast, suite style rooms with a kitchen. The rooms were clean and spacious. Our door was difficult to open and often stuck. I imagine this is due to the humidity from being on the water. This just meant that it sometimes took us two tries or a little shove to get it open. The Marriott bed was as comfortable as I remember, the water pressure was good in the shower and the views of the harbor/Charles River were wonderful. We ate breakfast at the tail end on our first morning and found it to be quite picked over (limited fruit and yogurt and only strawberry waffle batter) and no seats available, but luckily with the in room kitchen we could easily take our food back to our room. On our second morning we came right when it opened and our experience was the opposite! So moral here is....get there early! (Or sleep in and eat out.) The pool and sauna were small, but sufficient and overlooked the harbor. I sat and read in one of the chairs while my daughters swam. They reported the pool was warm and luckily not crowded as it was small. I did not use the fitness center as the weather was beautiful for running outdoors, but it too looked very small with 4-5 cardio machines and a small free weight station. The staff was for the most part friendly and helpful. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance (about 10 min) of the North End and North Station T stop which makes all of Boston accessible! We also walked from Northeastern University all the way back to the hotel as the weather was beautiful and I wanted to show my girls Newbury St, the Garden, Boston Common, Downtown Crossings, Faneuil Hall, and Long Warf. Boston is such a great city to walk around and we found Charlestown to be a lovely gem of a neighborhood just on the outskirts of all the bustle. And for other parents who are uncertain - I thought the bridge and walk was safe for me and my two daughters (11 and 10). We opted to walk down by the harbor, under the bridge and then up the stairs leading to the opposite side of the bridge. There we also found a little playground and dog park.
