We started our vacation at the Kahana Beach Resort (roach motel). After three night we couldn't take it any more and moved to the Kaanapali Shores Spa. Beautiful grounds, beach access, adult and children's pool with a bar/restaurant in between. Great location.

That Aston Kaanapali resort is a great place to spend an extended trip in Maui. Two swimming pools, a jacuzzi, lots of lounge chairs for sun tanning, a nice gym and really good restaurant near the ocean. The main courtyard of the resort is a nesting area for hundreds of magpies. They wake you at sunrise and greet you at sunset with a super loud chirp fest! The clamorous birds last for about 2 hours until they take off for the day to go foraging for food. The resort advertised our room as an Ocean View. We are in 733. There is a 7 story palm tree growing right in front of our balcony which actually gives a Partial Ocean View as you can see from our photos. The property appears to have a lot of these palm trees that look like imported Mexican Fan palms. This will probably eventually block most of the Ocean View views. If you want a great ocean view...leave your room
The Single bedroom condo we stayed in was great! The bedroom is in the back so you don't have to hear the clamor of the
Birds at 5 AM. It has a nice full size kitchen, a comfortable living room and a nice balcony. This side of the island is warm and breezy during the day and cool at night. It is about 40 minutes drive to Kehei which has better surfing areas and Hawaiian Kanoe Clubs. The Aston is conveniently located within short walking distance of a full service shopping center with a Grocery Store, restaurants, ice cream, shaved ice and snorkeling rentals.

We visited with our 11 and 14 year old boys. The resort has a small friendly feeling to it. Most of the sand has eroded away from the front of the resort, but there is tiny beach to the side. There are beautiful beaches just a quick drive away which were fun to discover. The resort restaurant has a happy hour menu that we took advantage of one time, but the food wasn't very good (bright orange cheese sauce on the Nachos). They have a Movie vending machine for free movies and quite a good selection of films. There are tennis courts and a pickle ball court, which my boys used every night, lots of fun. The lobby and common areas are open and breezy, very nice places to read a book or watch people come and go. There is a free library in the lobby. There is a really great grocery store across the street with reasonable prices. The staff are sweet and helpful. We stayed in room 208. Could see the ocean and there was a green space just below our room. The pools are nice, a little one for little ones and a larger one near the bar. You do have to pay for parking and tourist fees on top of your room rate, so be prepared for that. I would definitely stay here again.

We took our first family vacation to Maui in February. I researched places to stay and decided on Aston Kaanapali Shores. We had a wonderful Ocean front room. It was awesome to wake up every morning and go sit outside drinking our coffee and watch the whales. Everyone at the resort was super helpful and very friendly. The room we stayed in was a little dated but was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The pools were great and very relaxing. The beach is kind of off to the side, but that was fine with us. It was very peaceful. I would recommend Aston Kaanapali Shores to anyone looking for a relaxing comfortable place. We just got home and I am already excited to plan our next trip!
