Owner description: Your journey begins at Wappocomo Station, situated next to a charming homestead and a sprawling view of the mountains. Enjoy the sounds of vintage diesels as they lead you through beautiful pastures and farms dating back to the 1700s. As you wind along the South Branch of the Potomac River, you’ll enter a visually-striking gorge known as the Trough. One of the most scenic spots along the South Branch, the Trough is home to American bald eagles. All excursions are round-trip and include narration. A concession car is available to purchase snacks and drinks. Sorry, no smoking, pets, or alcoholic beverages permitted.

We were going to take the Fall Foliage ride on 11/01/2008 from Romney on the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad. We live near the suburbs of Washington DC about 90 miles away. The scheduled departure time for the train was 11:30 AM and we were well on our way to catch the train on time, when at 11:10AM, around 2 miles away from the Station on Route 50, just before the intersection of 28 North, there was an accident due to which the road was closed for around 25 minutes. Due to this, we and several other familes, many of whom had already purchased their tickets were stuck in traffic. Some of these families called up the station informing them of their status and requesting that they hold the departure of the train until their arrival. The train staff had even agreed to hold the train for us. When the road was finally cleared, we were only able to be at the station at 11:45AM inspite of all our efforts. Upon arrival we found that the train had departed and the counters closed and no one was available to talk to. In all, five to six families (around 14-15 people in all) were not accomodated inspite of notifying the train officials. We have two kids who were very eager to take the train ride and we are very disappointed by the Service and the indifference of a genuine situation. The place is in the middle of nowhere without too many signs, so if you plan to make a trip here go way ahead in time, otherwise there will not be a single customer rep to assist you.

My fiance and I really enjoyed our 3.5 hour ride earlier today. The coach tickets (adult) wre $35 each. First class tickets (which was sold out, but we were not going to buy those anyway) were $70 each. The train passes through picturesque pastures, with cows, rolled bays of hay, mountains, flowers... It also goes through a gorge. The river is so calm and clean, the trees reflect perfectly in the water. The kayakers and campers are friendly (we spent a good bit of the ride waving to people). The ride is fully narrated. The guides help you spot the eagles. We saw 4 deer (3 young ones and one -- a tiny baby). We also saw several eagles and two eagle nests. There is a snack car with reasonable options (popcorn, pizza, hot dogs, drinks, snacks), a souvenir car, two coach cars with comfortable (often reversible) seats and, in some cases, tables. There is a viewing car that has a couple of benches but is mostly standing room. We spent most of the time here -- the windows are large and you can see the scenery better than from the regular car. We also spent time in the gondola car, which is completely open. The weather was beautiful -- warm and slightly cloudy so we were not too hot. And we were able to see several eagles right above us.
Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend this ride to anyone visiting the area.

Went on Fall Foliage lunch train.

The non-train folks in our group had a great time and felt some nostalgia.

Food was actually very tasty. Crew was very friendly.

Cars were in decent shape. They do let you have access to the windows in the vestibules.

Word of warning...go first class if you can. I walked the train...the experience is completely different from coach.
