Difficult time arriving after hours, but would stay again.

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 13 Sept 2024
Cozy, cute luxury. Comfy bed with great pillows. Coffee machine works great, but decaf option included would be helpful. Nice, big community bathroom feels very European. Room was very clean and inviting after a long day of traveling. Community bathroom is spacious and very clean. I’ve stayed here before and would stay her again. Highly recommend, but be aware that late arrival might not go smoothly.

Leaf blower at 6am was not good. Sink cabinet in the bathroom on the 3rd floor needs to be painted.

After-hours key card retrieval didn’t go smoothly. If you arrive after 8pm, the front doors will be locked, but staff are on duty at the front desk until 9pm. They don’t put your room keycard in the after-hours lockbox for you until 8:45. I phoned ahead twice to discuss the timing of my arrival from PDX, so that they would know I would be arriving after 8pm. (Delayed flights and a one hour wait in line to get rental car.) I arrived at 8:30ish and could see through the glass front door that no staff member was at the desk. I found the lockbox, but the lighting is very poor and there are 5 different lockboxes on the same wall outside. I guessed which one I thought would be the one for the hotel. I tried that lockbox multiple times with the code I got by email, but it wouldn’t open. I tried the other lockboxes that I could reach. I enlisted help from staff at the restaurant next door who were aware of the hotel’s lockbox system, but the code did not work for them either. At this point, someone came out of the back room at the front desk of the hotel. I had to knock on the door and waive to get their attention. I explained that the code didn’t work and they said they hadn’t put my room card out in the lockbox yet - even though I had called twice and they knew I was on my way from PDX. If you know a customer is coming in late, stay at the front desk for their arrival. If you have to go in the back room for an extended period of time, put the room card in the lockbox before 8:45. Always keep the customer in mind and think ahead to make things easy for the customer. (I explained to them on the phone that I needed the arrival at the hotel to go smoothly, because of a very long and tiring day of travel.) Listen to the customer. You’re dealing with people who are tired, stressed, and who can’t wait to get into a comfy bed after a long day. Make it easy for them.

We checked out this hotel and strongly considered staying there. The desk clerk was friendly and helpful, allowing us to see a couple of different room options. Camas has a very scenic and appealing downtown, so the location in the heart of downtown was a big plus. The rooms were small but clean and pleasant.

However, paying over $200 for a room if we wanted a private bath and not a shared bath was not appealing. And there is no elevator, so we'd be carrying stuff up one or two flights. In the end we went to the Best Western, which is pretty far away from the downtown.

There we were able to have a private bath, a king bed, an elevator and a view of the river for $120. However, the location and the ambience of the Boutique Hotel is special, so we would consider going there on a future trip.

We arrived on a warm Friday evening and let the staff know that the air conditioner in our room not working. We came back after dinner to find no staff on site and a fan in our room. The temperature was 80 deg. After a sleepless night, we spoke to Stacy at the front desk about the problem. She assured us many times over the next few hours that the air conditioning would be fixed. We got back to an 82 deg room on Saturday evening.
On Sunday morning, Juliana, the front desk manager told us that there was no way the air conditioning would be fixed on a weekend because the vendor was not available. If we had known that on Saturday we would have found another place to stay.
We asked to be comped for one night. We were given a $50 credit and 15% off a future stay. I requested several times to speak to the manager, no response. 15% off a future stay is worthless, we won’t stay there again.
The hotel is just adequate if you want to stay in Camas, but miserable without air conditioning on a hot weekend.

Very nice hotel in the middle of town. Clean rooms and loved the breakfast that was included at Natalie’s Cafe.
Easy access to shops, restaurants and even hiking areas are all within walking distance from the hotel. I would recommend this place to all my friends and relatives.

Lovely historical hotel. This is my second time trying a different room since they are unique. Great staff very accommodating, both times I had the room before 3 pm. Reading other reviews makes me wonder why people don’t bother to read. The rooms are small because it’s an historic building! If you don’t want to have the ambiance choose a boring chain hotel. Others complain about the parking, I never had an issue parking close by. During the week the city has a 2 hour rule on the Main Street but not on weekends. Loved my stay every time. ❤️

Although our stay had a problem, I always like to start with the positives. The location is A+. The front desk attendant, although powerless, was a professional and polite young man. The hotel is unique as it is a slice of history.

We had several of a former guest’s hair in our shower, stuck on the walls. I didn’t notice it until we used the shower the morning of checkout. I’m a stickler for cleanliness. What really rubbed me wrong was that there is a $5 per room housekeeping tip added to your room fee upon checkin. When I asked this be removed I was told, by the front desk, that this is mandatory and only the owner could decide. The clerk told me he would inform the owner and personally reply to me about any adjustment. Crickets. It’s been two weeks.

The ice machine was broken.

If ownership responds a lame, “We are sorry. Contact us…,” I have a preemptive response. Consider yourself contacted.

Room tip: There is no elevator.
