My daughter took her mother and me to this restaurant for a birthday celebration. It was the first time for each of us to try this restaurant, but we had heard so many good reviews about the unique food and the atmosphere. I must say, 'this place did not disappoint'. Starting with excellent service, we enjoyed great food, presented perfectly. It is a little $$$$ and the the dining area is quite small with just 27 seats. The uniqueness of this place makes it very special and I recommend it highly.

Simple dishes are done as classics and superbly executed. Nothing is contrived to be fancy, instead the food is simple and sincere and features the flavors of the ingredients. We especially enjoyed the braised beef ribs, the shishito peppers, the cantaloup and proscuitto, and the delicate meringue and berry dessert. Just love this place.

I found this restaurant when we were looking for a place to have dinner before the theatre.

We arrived at our reservation time and were seated immediately. The staff was friendly and helpful and knew the details of each meal we had questions about.
The appetizer was delicious and obviously made with fresh veggies and fresh herbs and a wonderful aioli sauce I found out later had miso in it! What a great idea to add some deep flavor. My husband had the lamb and I had the veggie plate and we were both very satisfied with bout the portion size and the wonderful textures and flavors of each dish .

We did not have time for dessert because we had to make it on time to the theatre, but took the time to thank the chef for his love of cooking and the great food.

I have one suggestion for the restaurant that will not lower my star rating because the food and staff were wonderful, but I do take some offense at being served a meal in a baking tray. A nice fiesta ware platter works as well and does make the food appear more appetizing.
We will be back!

I have had a hard time deciding between giving the Shack a 3 or 4 star rating. I definitely feel like this was not their best night, and our suspicious were confirmed by our waiter, who told us the kitchen was having a rough night. We were sat on time for our reservation, and glasses of water appeared fairly quickly and my glass of wine followed shortly thereafter. Then we didn't see any one for 15 minutes. Now, we went on a Saturday night and had changed our reservation time by 30 minutes, and this last minute change was accommodated very nicely. However, it was early and the restaurant did not appear busy enough to explain a 15 minute wait to place our order. After quite a lengthy interim, our starters arrived, butterbean hummus on toast and pimento cheese with crackers, and they were excellent. Our second course (charred peas) was very good as well (loved it!), but our main dishes left a little to be desired. My boyfriend had steelhead salmon, which was decent, but not memorable, and I had the lambchetta which was...not my favorite. It was a little on the tough and dry side, and the wrapping, a pork belly I believe, was hard as a rock and inedible in places. We chose to sit out on the patio, which was quite nice, but to manage expectations, you are sitting on a side street overlooking the gas station. I nice arbor/pergola would really improve the outdoor ambiance. We actually had to skip dessert as our meal took 2 hours and we were already running late to a function, but I would like to try this restaurant again and see if the experience improved at all. We met folks who had eaten there the weekend before, and they said it was the best culinary experience they had ever had, so I know the potential is there. To note, our server, Matt, was more inclined to chat up the locals than to provide service on par with the food the restaurant was trying to produce. We hope that was a one night thing as well.
