Review of Nu-Beginning Farm The Store - CLOSED

Nu-Beginning Farm The Store
Price range: HK$39 - HK$117
Cuisines: Cafe
Description: The Store is a cafe, grocery store, coffee house, internet cafeand happy meeting place! We source our food from the surrounding area (when possible)with the distance depending on the product (items that can't be sourced locally are purchased from sources with a concentration toward the environment and non-use of chemicals). We currently represent over 50 local producers and growers from seven Virginia counties and one from West Virginia. Owned and operated by Nu-Beginning Farm which was established in Greenville, Va by John and Stella Matheny, in 2003. Nu-Beginning first got started at the Verona Farmers' Market with two card tables and a box of vegetables that all fit in the trunk of a car. The Store offers a nice selection of house made gluten free, vegetarian and vegan food options. We hope that you have the opportunity to visit The Store and see what the culinary team can do with local products!

Had an excellent breakfast here New Year's day! Organic coffee was great. Ordered a Build Your Own Breakfast of eggs, bacon, fruit and whole wheat toast. Jam is HOMEMADE. Pleasant open, light-filled setting. Was toasty warm in spite of single digit outdoor temps. Awesome food that you can feel good about!

Little bland, little over priced, different cooks prepare things differently. Very Ashevilleish. Great if you like Asheville.

My wife and I were again driving recently on I81 South through the Shenandoah Valley and left the interstate to go into Staunton so that we could eat at Nu-Beginning. The place is still there but the good feeling about the place has left. The waitress reminded me of a military draftee from years past who was there physically but in spirit was someplace else far away. We ordered the hippie omelet but it was just ok and the turmeric was laid on much too heavily. The toast it came with was essentially Wonder Bread that was hardly toasted at all. The place is very small although we were lucky that the group that was in there ahead of us was just leaving which opened up one of the two tables. So, all in all, I really can't recommend that anyone driving along I81 actually take the five mile detour into Staunton just to find this particular restaurant. I still like very much the idea of a farm-to-table restaurant in such a nondescript location as the parking lot behind the Howard Johnson's but after that idea wears off one is left with just a tiny restaurant whose wait staff should be out doing something else.

We had breakfast there and could not help but notice the purity of the flavors in the eggs, butter and jams. We look forward to trying their lunch or dinner. I felt I was in a farmhouse, with a loving cook taking care of me. Our server was wonderful; I'd go back just to see her again.

Decided to try this place for lunch. Sat outside as it was a beautiful day. Tables are a bit uneven but still was nice to be out. Waitress accidentally dropped a glass of water in my husbands lap. They were very apologetic. Made for a laugh. Food took quite a long time for a sandwich and salad. Was yummy, but was a little long for what was ordered. Had to speed to get back to work. Would try again when gave more time. Greek salad supreme was good. Husband had meatloaf sandwich. He said not bad
