This was a planned fishing trip for the kids (ages 5, 7, and 10). The drive was over 2 hours for us and the winding roads require lots of caution on the way there. I would recommend doing all of your grocery and other shopping needs about 30 minutes before arriving. There's not much less than about 6 or so miles away (again on the winding roads). I wasnt aware that the "fishing" was in a man made pond area. That pretty much limits the amount of fish you can catch, especially if you arrive late like we did. The kids were able to "fish" for a while, although they were not lucky enough to catch anything. The cabin, SpyRock, made the trip for us. It didn't look like much from the outside, however, once we turned the keys and entered, everyone was more than happy. One bathroom, bedroom kitchen and living area downstairs. Spiral, metal staircase to a bedroom that sleeps 3 upstairs (1 double, 1 twin). The kitchen has a stove, fridge, dishes, pots, dish soap, salt and peper and ice trays. Bring all other food items, including foil. That wasn't available but we made do with what we purchased. I was a little taken aback by the note left for a maid's tip, particularly when we were responsible for doing everything except mopping and washing the laundry. We had to move all furniture back to the original place, take off the bed linen and place them in the bathroom, wash all dishes and return to original location and more.
We had no phone service, which was actually kind of nice, but obviously an issue if there's an emergency. I don't think there was wifi either, however I'm not 100% sure.
I'm not exactly a nature girl so the winter worked well for me. I would not stay here in the warm weather because it's in the woods and I don't do well with animals. I didnt see any (thankfully), however I saw a lot of items in the general store that let me know various animal species lurk in the area.
Overall, it was a nice experience, but we will not return.
