“Unique experience”

Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park
Reviewed 29 June 2018

We did a guided tour here from Goulding's campground. It was an amazing day and unique experience. Spectacular scenery.

This is my number one national park, this isn’t simply fantastic, just so beautiful! This is the scenery we have all seen in John Wayne movies. The red rocks, and you must absolutely see it and visit at the sunset, it has great skies and such colors, it is unique! Watch for the red dust, do not wear white!

The monoliths in the Park are amazing. I took a sunrise tour through the park. The scenery is amazing, but the road is very rough. I decided not to drive the road in my own car. Views of the sunrise and sunset are wonderful from the visitor center. However, there were a lot of people around for sunset so it wasn't a peaceful time. Sunrise was much different -- fewer people so it was a lot quieter and more peaceful. The park is hot and dry in summer so make sure you bring water, sunscreen and a protective hat.

I love visiting Monument Valley. The monoliths are spectacular, even spiritual. Even if you do not do any of the activities there, it is worth the stop to view the monuments.

We drove the 17 mile loop around the park in our rental RAV 4. The roads were beyond bumpy, and there were a couple of spots of sand where our tires slipped a lot, but otherwise it was an ok drive. 4wd would probably have helped. We chose not to do the truck tours as they were quite expensive ($80/person) and extremely dusty. You can pull off to the side and spend as much time as you like taking photos. If we did it again, we might rent a jeep on our own - but wouldn't do a tour.
