We had a great stay at the California. Our room was on the 5th floor with a pool and sea view , we did pay extra for the pool view. Rooms are very nicely decorated and comfortable. No need for air con as the ceiling fan was fine. Rooms were cleaned daily apart from on Wednesday and Sunday but rubbish was still emptied. We didn’t seem to have hot water one day but this was sorted within half an hour of reporting it to reception.Nice walk down to the beach and restaurants. Just outside is a little stall where trips , cars etc can be booked. We hired a motorbike and got discount. We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend.
Stayed here for a week with my friend, and it was ideal for us. Good price, great location for everything we wanted to do, room clean and nicely decorated, supermarket across the road. No air con but the ceiling fan was fine. We could always get a sunbed and it was quiet and peaceful around the pool. Would definitely come back again!
I am still here on holiday with 3 days left ( won't get chance when I get home ). Spotlessly clean. I'm on the 5th floor with a pool and sea view but only paid extra for the pool view which is a bonus. Supermarket right across the road supplies everything you need. Staff go over and above to meet your needs. I went down just last night to ask to buy some milk and they just gave it to me. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT NO AIR CON. That was one thing I was worried about but I'm laid on the bed right now and don't feel hot at all. The hotel next door do have roof parties nightly which can be loud but close your patio door and you don't hear a thing. Food reasonable close by to apartments and only a 20 minute walk to christianos. 5 minutes to nearest beach. All good. Two very happy ladies looking for a break that is kid free. Would return again if I wanted to stay in PDLA
I can only comment about the studio apartment we had as we did not stop in the main hotel. Ours was a bit tired around the edges and as you will see from the photo, this is how close we were to the hotel next door. The young residents in this hotel loved playing their music and talking/shouting loudly on their balconies from midday until around 2am each morning. We asked to be moved on the first night but the receptionist told us that they were fully booked and despite seeing people leaving other apartments throughout our fortnight, we were never offered another room. She did say she would ask security to take a look at where the noise was coming from but it never stopped. We had cockroaches and ants (tiny black things we think were ants) in the apartment but stopped the cockroaches coming in by covering the bottom of the door with towels and covering all sink and shower holes when we went out but we couldn’t stop the ants. The cockroaches were still running around in the aisles outside at night but didn’t get in to our apartment again. We were both bit in the apartment by something but not sure if it was the ants. The kitchen area is well equipped with all the basics. Even a T-towel and washing up liquid are provided. Because of the noise from the hotel next door, we had to close everything up at night including the vents in the kitchen and bathroom area but the ceiling fan did keep us cool throughout the night. The hotel refuses to give you two keys and insists that you leave your key at reception for the other person if you need to go out. This was very difficult because I could not lock the door if I went to the supermarket and left my husband in bed because he would not have been able to get out in an emergency or get to the key I was supposed to leave at reception... However, we discovered one morning that the mortice lock, locks behind you when you close the door and if the key is in the door, you can’t get back in! We had to wait for a member of staff to remove the glass from the vents in the kitchen area to remove the key-very strange locking system so be aware and check yours before you leave. Our friends’ door did not lock the same way as ours. The bath towels are too small, even for a size zero, so either take your own or buy one as it’s cheaper than the €1 a day charge. The WiFi is expensive at €5 a day for each device. One of the security guards would let you walk by the pool to get to your room in the dark but another would send us through a maze, which was not easy to do in the dark and dangerous. The pool is lovely and cooling and there are plenty of sun loungers. The pool/snack bar is reasonably priced. We were under the impression that it was an adult only hotel but some young children (they looked about 12) appeared in the hotel pool in the evenings but they may have been the children of staff. On our last day, the hotel kept our cases for us in a dedicated room but we were just handed the key and told to hand it back when finished so security was lacking as anyone could have taken belongings and no staff member was supervising us. It was here that we discovered a pay as you go washing machine that we didn’t know about. There is a shower to use if you need to freshen up before you leave but not sure if there is a charge. The noisy room would stop us staying again. There is a bar next door to the hotel called, Top Bar and the staff and food are amazing and if they had been on Trip Advisor, they would get a fantastic review and 5 stars.
Just returned from a 10 night stay at this hotel and on the whole it was great.
You pay extra for a safe which is fair enough and extra for WiFi which I think is a bit cheeky.
Staff are pleasant and always greet you upon entering or leaving the hotel. We were on the 4th floor and the room was always very clean. They don’t clean rooms on a Sunday or a Wednesday but they do still empty bins. We had a couple of creepy crawlers in the bathroom that looked like caterpillars so watch out for those and only had one cockroach in the room during our stay.
Despite saying sun lounges cannot be reserved with beds they are and this was a pain as it was a struggle to get a lounger most days.
The breakfast for 8 Euro isn’t worth it we went down at 830 as we had a tripped booked and only had toast. We were still charged the full price because apparently you have to ask for cooked bacon or Aisha despite this not being made clear and the woman behind the bar still actually cooking the food.
In terms of location this hotel is excellent it’s just a 10 minute walk to the beach, bars and a large selection of restaurants.
Adults only is a huge plus too.
