An authentic medieval castle like experience . A first class restaurant and bar is also part of this experience. Back rooms overlook the Aude river. Don't expect to handle your luggage ( even hand luggage) as the stairs are all original stone...wodnerfully uneven.

This boutique hotel is definitely unique, a castle which was built in 1540. What a thrill for us to be able to stay in such a wonderful facility. There are no elevators, so it was a good climb up the 59 steps to our floor, but we welcomed the experience and exercise. The steps are also unique as they are within one of the four turrets of the castle. They go around and around.

This is a beautiful hotel and it was great to stay in a 17 centenary chateau and the staff were on the whole very welcoming. However due to being a listed building it does not have lifts and the main way to the bedrooms is via a spiral staircase with uneven steps, 56 to the top floor. Other steps throughout the building are also of various depths which all combines to make it difficult for anyone unsteady on there legs to get about. Had a top floor room with looked to have been the servants quarters at one time as was quite small although understand that other rooms on other floors were much larger. The food was posh french and good quality well presented but left me feeling unsatisfied by the quantity. Overall a nice place to stay but keep in mind the steps.

Room tip: Ask for one on the first floor

Dear Colin H,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at the Chateau.
The castle is a listed historical monument and there is obviously no elevator available. Regarding the rooms you can choose next time on our website larger rooms with different views for different prices.
We are glad you enjoyed your dinner and hope to welcoming you again, on the 1st floor...
Yours sincerely.

Sturdy square-built 16th Century château converted to a hotel about 20 years ago, in nice grounds down to the River Aude and having its own swimming pool (fortunately the weather turned hot and we were able to make use of it). The attractive courtyard is given over to tables for an extension to the restaurant or bar, and we reached our first floor room via an old stone staircase in the corner. Our room was immaculately decorated, with a comfortable bed, adequate storage and was just about large enough for a one or two night stay: the towers contain the rather larger and much more expensive rooms. We were a captive audience as far as breakfast was concerned, and it was very good, but over-priced at €16 per head.

We toured southern France with one our objectives being finding the places and traces of the Knights Templar. The Chateaux des Ducs, being in the heart of the Templar’s old redoubts, became our home base for 3 days. Upon our arrival on a warm day we took immediate advantage of the large and immaculate swimming pool. It was welcome relaxation after a long drive that day.
That evening we thoroughly enjoyed our gourmet dinner “al fresco” in the beautiful courtyard. The wine list was marvelous. The service impeccable.
Our room was in one of the turrets that overlooked the Aude river. It was charmingly decorated and quite roomy. The bathroom was generously sized as well with a good shower. It was a quiet and restful night’s sleep with the gentle sounds of the river lulling us to sleep.
The morning’s breakfast gave us a generous choice of meats, cheezes, yogurt, cereal, and pastries. An egg cooker was available which we made use of, as well.
We repeated the above for two more nights which made it difficult to say goodbye. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend the Chateaux.
