Warning - If you choose to embark to Maharaja Bhog, be prepared to have all future Indian food experiences ruined by this authentic cultural experience. You will simply never look at Indian cuisine the same way again after setting foot in Maharaja Bhog!
To be straight with you, I am a Michigan born but Texas raised man with very little in the way of food culture. In fact this might be only my second or so restaurant review, so something must be truly spectacular for me to get on and rate it.
Maharaja Bhog simply has no rival in Houston or all of Texas. The restaurant has four or so locations in India, one location in Dubai, and Texans are so privileged to have the one and only USA location in Houston, TX.
It is immediately apparent from walking through the front door that one is about to have a completely different dinning experience than the typical - the manager warmly welcomes you to your seat, a bowl is brought to you to wash your hands, and a wide assortment of dishes is brought to your table. At Maharaja Bhog, there is moment of stressful reading through a menu of unfamiliar dishes while one desperately prays they have picked something edible to eat - the entire menu selection is brought to the table! Anything you like you let the manager know and they bring you as much of it as you like - the rest you just leave untouched! I have never eaten so much in my life - everything was incredible from the food to the atmosphere to the attentive serving staff!
Make sure to let the manager know it is your first time going so he can brief you in the culture and customs of proper Indian dinning!
All in all for a single night, I felt I was dinning hundreds of miles away in Mumbai, India and experiencing not only incredible food and great service, but a cultural experience not often achieved in American Dinning.
